It’s the Seattle Seahawks (5-2, 3-0 away) versus the Washington Commanders (3-5, 2-1 home) on Sunday Night Football. Washington is welcoming starting QB Jayden Daniels back to the lineup, but that wasn’t enough to earn them favorites status in the SNF odds. Online sportsbooks are instead siding with Seattle, who are looking to stay on top of the NFC West division.
Kickoff is scheduled for 8:20 pm ET from Northwest Stadium in Landover, MD, with NBC providing the broadcast coverage.
Seahawks vs Commanders Picks and Predictions
Nearly every stat you’ll find will encourage you to bet the Seahawks. Seattle is the superior team by nearly every advanced metric, yet the spread has held firm at Seahawks -3 at most books, and has even shrunk to -2.5 at some shops. Either online sportsbooks are out to lunch, or they know something that the public doesn’t.
For that reason, I can’t possibly bet the spread. When something is too good to be true it usually is, so let’s explore the total market instead. That number is up to 48.5 after opening at 45.5, and I think the over love has gone too far.
For starters, the Seahawks defense is very strong. They rank sixth in success rate and are number two in EPA/rush allowed. Seattle is surrendering just 19.4 points per game, and is top-10 in total yards allowed. They’ve battled significant injuries on that side of the ball, but are set to get starting corner Devon Witherspoon back for this matchup.
Seattle Seahawks Defensive Stats
As for the Commanders offense, they haven’t exactly lit the world on fire with or without Daniels. They’ve averaged just 22 points in five Daniels starts, while the sophomore QB is 20th in QBR. He hasn’t been nearly as successful on the ground as he was as a rookie, scoring only once so far while averaging 1.2 yards fewer per carry.
To make matters worse, his weapons are not at full strength. Number one wideout Terry McLaurin is out, while starting left tackle Laremy Tunsil is questionable.
On the other side of the ball, Seattle’s offense has the looks of a Super Bowl 60 odds contender. Sam Darnold leads all quarterbacks in passing grade, and is second in big-time throws with 18 already. Explosive plays are where you can hurt the Washington defense, as they’ve allowed 27 passes of 20+ yards this season.
If you’re looking for some action in the NFL player props market, consider Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s longest reception prop. He leads the NFL in receiving yards and has ten 20+ yard receptions on his 2025 resume.
The one above average aspect of the Washington defense is their pass rush, as they rank 14th in pressure rate. Darnold has struggled badly with the heat on in the past, and his average yards per attempt drops nearly 4 yards this season under pressure compared to when kept clean.
I’m not expecting the Commanders to completely shut down Darnold and Co., but I do think they can keep them in check. They held KC to just 7 points in the first half last week before the wheels fell off, and limited the Chargers potent offense to only 10 points earlier this year.
Even it the Seahawks do put up points, I don’t see Daniels and Washington punching back. They’ve underwhelmed offensively all season, and I expect that to continue again in primetime. I’ll take under 48.5 my favorite Seahawks vs Commanders pick.
