The Yankees have come out victorious in the first three contests of the series, winning a 5-4 thriller on Saturday thanks to a four-run sixth inning. They will send rookie Luis Gil to the mound on Sunday, while Yusei Kikuchi makes the start for Seattle.

Probable Pitchers
Kikuchi has been a staple in the Mariners rotation this season, posting a 7-6 record and 3.89 ERA in 20 starts, striking out 129 hitters in just 120.1 innings. The Japanese lefty bounced back in his last outing after a string of rough starts, going six innings and surrendering just one run to a potent Tampa Bay Rays offense. Prior though, Kikuchi allowed 18 earned runs in four appearances and also gave up six homers during that span.
FINAL: Mariners defeat the Rays, 4-2.

The 30-year-old has only pitched once against the Yankees this season, but it wasn’t pretty. He lasted five innings, allowing five runs as Kikuchi took the loss. In fact, the southpaw has an ERA over five versus NY in his big league career. Luckily, most of these current hitters haven’t face him a lot, though.
Kikuchi vs Gil Head-to-Head Stats
| 7-6 | Record | 1-0 |

Gil is brand new to the major leagues, receiving a call-up before his MLB debut on Tuesday night. The Yankees’ #6 overall prospect did not disappoint, throwing a six-inning shutout against the Baltimore Orioles, walking just one and striking out six. The hard-throwing righty dazzled with his mid-to-high 90’s heater and knee-buckling breaking ball.
Throwin' 99 for his first Major League strikeout 🔥

Gil profiles to be an important piece to the future in the Bronx and will have a chance to make another terrific impression on Sunday afternoon. By no surprise, no one on the M’s has ever faced the Dominican, but they will have their work cut out for them.
Batting Average vs Starting Pitchers
| Yankees Hitters | Batting Average vs Kikuchi |
|---|---|
| Joey Gallo | .200 |
| Brett Gardner | .167 |
| Aaron Judge | .400 |
| DJ LaMahieu | .333 |
| Rougned Odor | .000 |
| Giancarlo Stanton | .333 |
| Gleyber Torres | .333 |
The Mariners’ offense got off to a great start on Saturday, scoring four runs in the first two innings. They quickly rattled Yanks starter Andrew Heaney, who has struggled since coming over from the LA Angels at the trade deadline. Kyle Seager slugged a 2-run homer to lead Seattle, but their defense and pitching ultimately hurt them in the sixth, with Mitch Haniger making a costly error.

The M’s are now on a three-game losing skid and have gone just 3-7 in their last 10 games. The Wild Card is still a possibility, but Seattle needs to figure it out very quickly and put together some wins. Unfortunately, playing on the road isn’t a strong suit but the Mariners do return home for their next two series.
The Yankees are absolutely rolling right now. They’re on a five-game winning streak and are having no problems creating offense after a rough first half offensively. Rougned Odor was the difference-maker on Saturday, clubbing a two-run bomb in their big sixth inning.

Anthony Rizzo has enjoyed a great start to his Yanks career since coming over from the Cubs, hitting .281 with three long balls in just nine games. Joey Gallo also finally hit his first homer on Thursday in a New York uniform. Since the All-Star Break, the Yankees have a 15-6 record and now sit just five games behind the Rays for first place in the American League East.
Mariners vs Yankees Prediction
Seattle needs a victory very badly here. While the rookie on the mound for New York is solid, I think the Mariners are going to generate some offense against him in the series finale. That’s three contests in a row now that were decided by a maximum of two runs and you’ll see the M’s on the winning end this time around, with Kikuchi keeping his ballclub in the game.
Pick: Seattle Mariners (+140)
