Argentina (-600) vs. Jamaica (+2200), Draw (+775)
Perhaps the most uneven game of the 2015 Copa America will take place at the Estadio Sausalito in Chile, when tournament favorite Argentina faces Jamaica this Saturday in the third fixture of Group B (5:30 PM Eastern).
Jamaica has had a rough go so far, losing 1-0 to both Uruguay and Paraguay. The loss against Paraguay was particularly painful, coming as a result of a misplayed ball by goalie Duwayne Kerr. Kerr elected to head a long volley from Victor Caceres and knocked the ball into a nearby Edgar Benitez for the game’s only goal.
No matter how they got there, though, it’s no surprise the Caribbean team is at the bottom of the group: they had the longest odds to win the Copa America before the tournament kicked off. However (with a lot of help) they could still find a spot in the quarterfinals if they can somehow, miraculously, beat Argentina.
Argentina hasn’t shown their best game so far, drawing against Paraguay in their first fixture (2-2) despite holding a 2-0 lead in the first half. In their second game, they beat Uruguay 1-0 on a tally by Sergio Aguero. But, given the talent on this team, they should be better than 1-1-0 with a +1 goal difference at this point.
The Albiceleste won’t have manager Gerardo Martino for this game against Jamaica after he was sent off in their against Uruguay. According to NDTV.com, Martino “got into the referee’s bad books early on after he stepped onto the pitch complaining about one of the referee’s decisions within the first 30 minutes of the first half.”
Looking at the head-to-head history, Argentina and Jamaica have only met twice before and the Argentines have taken both meetings, first in the 1998 World Cup (5-0) and then in a friendly in 2010 (2-1). It’s really a no-brainer who will emerge on top in their third meeting.
Pick: Argentina (-600).
