Tigers Look to Extend Win Streak vs League-Leading Port Adelaide

The Richmond Tigers will be gunning for a third straight victory when they visiting the league-leading Port Adelaide Power on Saturday morning as 1.5-point favorites in the AFL Round 11 odds. Richmond followed up their decisive 90-49 victory over the Western Bulldogs in Round 9 with an 82-41 rout of Brisbane earlier this week, and sit just six points back of the Power heading into Saturday morning’s matchup at the Adelaide Oval.

The Tigers overcame an early 13-point deficit against Brisbane and never looked back, limiting the Lions to just 15 second-half points. With their recent victories over clubs in the top eight, the Tigers have made steady gains on the ladder, rebounding from their dip below the line into their present position in fourth place, just six points back of Port Adelaide.

Port Adelaide will be looking for a better result after escaping with a narrow 55-42 win over the Bulldogs this past Monday. The Power have posted wins in four of their past five contests to improve their league-leading win-loss-draw record to 8-2-0, but have struggled to dominate at times. Following a heart-stopping 64-61 win over the Carlton Blues in Round 7, the club stumbled badly in a 73-44 loss to St. Kilda, and now sport a middling 2-2-0 record against opponents currently in the top eight.

The Power have also struggled in recent dates with Richmond, going 1-3-0 in their past four meetings. However, the Port Adelaide defense has remained steady this season, allowing just 48.5 points per game, and fewer points than that in four of five home dates. This is a trend that must continue if the Power are to maintain sole position of first place.

Picks: Port Adeliade Power to win (-110); UNDER 114.5 (-112)

Western Bulldogs Ride Losing Streak into Brisbane

The Western Bulldogs will be looking to put the brakes on a two-match losing streak when they visit the Brisbane Lions on Saturday as lengthy 14.5-point underdogs. The Bulldogs offense has struggled badly over their current slide, averaging just 47.33 points per match over their past three contests. And while the offense has floundered, the defense has not done much better, ranking fourth-last in the AFL with a total of 629 points allowed through 10 outings.

The Bulldogs defense particularly struggled in this past Monday’s date with the Power, with the club getting outscored by a wide 27-1 margin in the third quarter to erase their halftime lead and seal a 55-42 loss.

Tighter defensive play is crucial if the Bulldogs are to have any chance of slowing down Brisbane, who enter Saturday morning’s clash at the Gabba riding a four-match win streak. The Lions trail only St. Kilda in points scored this season, with 704, and will be looking to atone for Tuesday’s lopsided 82-41 loss to Richmond.

It will be a somewhat different looking Lions squad that hits the turf on Saturday morning. In the wake of Tuesday’s loss, the club made a number of personnel changes, with several veterans returning to the lineup including Daniel Rich, Grant Birchall, and Dan McStay, along with rookie Matt Eagles. The club hopes the moves will instill more discipline, and reset the offense after this week’s season-worst performance.

Picks: Brisbane Lions -14.5 (-112); UNDER 120.5 (-112)

Red-Hot Saints Underdogs vs Inconsistent Cats

Fresh off an entertaining 78-74 victory over the Gold Coast Suns on Thursday, the St. Kilda Saints set their sights on a fifth straight victory as they take on the Geelong Cats on Monday morning as surprising 9.5-point underdogs. The Saints outlasted the Suns in a contest that saw the lead change hands on six occasions, and enter Round 11 in second place on the AFL ladder, marking a dramatic improvement over last season, which they closed out in 14th place.

While the Saints kept fans on the edge of their seats in Thursday’s narrow win, the offense performed as expected. The club has now topped 70 points in each of their past seven outings, pushing the point total OVER 120 in six of those matches.

The Cats are coming off a much needed 90-57 rout of North Melbourne. While marking just their second victory in four outings, Wednesday’s win marked a breakthrough for the Cats offense, which averaged fewer than 50 points per match in their previous three outings.

Geelong have produced mixed results as the road club this season, going 2-2-0, and while they have taken three straight from St. Kilda, 9.5 points is a huge spread to cover against the rejuvenated Saints

Picks: St. Kilda Saints +9.5 (-112)
