Bet365 is the newest operator to launch Maryland online sports betting in the Old-Line State.

Maryland Lottery and Gaming reported bet365 underwent a successful controlled demonstration on Thursday, Aug. 28, to be able to launch today. Bet365 is now live and operational in 15 states throughout the country.

The sports betting operator joins a crowded Maryland sports betting app market that includes 11 other sportsbooks.

bet365 Joins Maryland Online Sports Betting Market

The launch of bet365 Maryland comes at an advantageous time for the operator, as it will be live one weekend before the NFL season begins on Thursday, Sept. 4, when the Philadelphia Eagles take on the Dallas Cowboys in Philadelphia. The NFL season is consistently the most lucrative sports betting months for operators.

The sports betting operator is now live in 15 states. These include:

The operator has reported no plans to open a retail sportsbook in the state and will only operate in the online sports betting market. Bet365 joins a crowded Maryland online sports betting market that includes 11 other operators, all of which pay a 15% tax on gross gaming revenues.

The operator has made steady progress in states where it offers sports betting. While it is not on the same tier as a DraftKings or FanDuel, it competes well with the likes of Caesars Sportsbook and BetMGM, often outpacing these sportsbooks in licensed states.

Maryland Has Strong Online Market

Maryland’s online sports betting market is quite strong and bet365 has the luxury of entering a state that is nearing its maturity. While DraftKings and FanDuel both do tend to dominate the market, bet365 will have the opportunity to carve out a portion with its dedicated customer base.

In July, Maryland sports bettors wagered nearly $364.1 million, with the vast majority coming from online sports betting. The state reported more than $7.2 million in sports betting tax revenue.
