Missouri sports betting had an active first week of business, according to GeoComply, a geolocation technology company, driven in large part by a primetime national Kansas City Chiefs game.
Missouri launched its sports betting market on Monday, Dec. 1, at midnight, which has led to more than 520,000 active sports betting accounts in the Show-Me State after just one week, according to GeoComply’s data.
DraftKings Missouri, Circa Missouri, FanDuel Missouri, Fanatics Sportsbook Missouri, Caesars Sportsbook Missouri, theScore Bet Missouri (formerly ESPN BET Missouri), bet365 Missouri, and BetMGM Missouri have all been live for a little more than a week in Missouri.
Chiefs Drive Sports Betting Interest
During last Monday’s launch, GeoComply reported 250,000 active sports betting accounts, which doubled in just one week.
From Dec. 1 to Dec. 7, GeoComply reported nearly 18.5 million geolocation checks among the state’s sports betting customers. A geolocation check is not a bet, but a registered sportsbook customer logging into their account.
It certainly helped to have the Kansas City Chiefs participate in Sunday Night Football to drive traffic to the state’s online sports betting operator platforms. The Chiefs hosted the Houston Texans Sunday night at Arrowhead Stadium, a 20-10 loss which has put their postseason hopes in doubt, but served as a definite hotspot for live sports betting engagement.
According to GeoComply, from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. CT on Sunday, the company identified more than 10,000 active accounts at the stadium and surrounding area, with over 43,000 confirmed geolocation checks.
Missouri One Full Week Into Sports Betting
Missouri launched sports betting on Monday, Dec. 1, with eight licensed online sports betting operators opening their markets for thousands of customers.
Just prior to launch, Underdog pulled its license from the state, noting it would focus on prediction market services as it moved forward.
Additionally, ESPN BET successfully rebranded itself in the state (and nationally) to theScore Bet on Dec. 1. Customers can now register accounts for theScore Bet in the state. Previously registered ESPN BET accounts in the state automatically rebranded to theScore Bet, according to a PENN spokesperson, with all funds and promos automatically transferring to the new platform.
