  • The Massachusetts Gaming Commission reported just $9.5 million in sports betting tax revenue for July
  • It’s the least profitable month of sports betting for the commonwealth in 2025 and its least profitable since August 2024
  • July also featured the smallest handle total for any month in 2025 as well

July was certainly a down month for Massachusetts sports betting.

The Massachusetts Gaming Commission reported just $489.5 million in total sports betting handle and $9.57 million in total tax revenue for the month, both lows for the commonwealth’s 2025 sports betting calendar.

Tax revenues decreased by nearly $3 million from the state’s June total.

Sports Betting Slows to Crawl in Summer

The sports betting slow down is not unexpected, as more often than not markets tend to decrease during the summer months due to limited events. However, July 2025 is the least profitable sports betting month in Massachusetts since August 2024, when the state reported just $6.58 million in sports betting tax revenues.

Similarly, July 2025’s sports betting handle total of $489,496,835 is the lowest handle total since August 2024’s $447,318,475.

However, July 2025 did report about $1.4 million more in tax revenues when compared with July 2024’s total of $8.1 million. It was also nearly a $3 million increase from July 2023’s total of $5.84 million in tax revenues.

This comes just two months after Massachusetts experienced its second most profitable month of sports betting ever.

DraftKings Dominates July

Hometown DraftKings continues to dominate the Massachusetts sports betting market, reporting the highest handle and taxable revenue generated among any of the sports betting operators in July.

DraftKings reported $235.9 million in total handle for the month, coupled with $24.3 million in taxable revenue. FanDuel, as is typically the case, topped all other operators in Massachusetts with $121.6 million in handle and $12.2 million in taxable revenue.

Fanatics Sportsbook also continued its strong push in the commonwealth, reported $55.3 million in July handle and $4.4 million in taxable revenue.

Caesars Sportsbook reported only a 5.43% hold for the month, noting $14.7 million in total handle but only $765,128 in taxable revenue.

Here are the online sports betting totals for the month of May:

  • Bally Bet: $3,724,999 in online sports betting handle, $314,681 in taxable gaming revenue
  • BetMGM: $37,956,019 in online sports betting handle, $4,416,084 in taxable gaming revenue
  • Caesars Sportsbook: $14,768,889 in online sports betting handle, $765,128 in taxable gaming revenue

  • ESPN BET: $13,941,723 in online sports betting handle, $980,739 in taxable gaming revenue
  • Fanatics Betting and Gaming: $55,293,349 in online sports betting handle, $4,410,159 in taxable gaming revenue
