  • New York experienced its most profitable week of sports betting ever
  • The New York State Gaming Commission reported more than $96 million in gross gaming revenue
  • The state experienced a 157% increase in revenue from the previous week

Reports of New York online sports betting’s demise seem to be greatly exaggerated.

The New York State Gaming Commission reported more than $96 million in gross gaming revenue for the week ending Jan. 18, the most profitable week of sports betting the state has ever experienced. With the state’s 51% tax rate, this led to $48.96 million in tax revenues for the week.

The record-setting week saw a 157% increase in gross gaming revenue compared with the prior week.

Worries Over Prediction Markets Dissapate

New York reported just $37.3 million in gross gaming revenues the week prior, which set off several alarm bells in relationship to prediction markets and sports event contracts digging into sports betting market share.

A number of economic analysts pointed to the millions being traded in sports event contracts as legitimate threat to sports betting giants DraftKings and FanDuel.

However, New York demolished its previous weekly gross gaming revenue record of $80.9 million set during the week ending Dec. 7, 2025. DraftKings and FanDuel both reported massive weeks of revenue, with DraftKings noting $32.3 million in revenue and FanDuel disclosing $43.1 million in revenue.

It has been a profitable NFL season for most states with legalized sports betting. Just this week, Massachusetts reported $98.4 million in revenue for December, a record for the commonwealth.

The commonwealth brought in $19,627,172 in tax revenue for the month.

Huge Week for New York

The New State Gaming Commission reported $545,143,300 in online sports betting handle and $96,005,592 in gross gaming revenue for the week ending Jan. 18.

New York experienced a 40.5% increase in gross gaming revenue when compared with the $68,297,789 gross gaming revenue total reported for the week ending Jan. 19, 2025.
