North Carolina Reports $116 Million in Sports Betting Tax Revenue for FY 25

The final totals are in for North Carolina’s first full fiscal year of sports betting.

The North Carolina Lottery Commission reported 116,584,835 in sports betting tax revenues for Fiscal Year 2025, which concluded in June. The state’s eight licensed sports betting operators took more than $6.4 billion in online sports bets for the fiscal year. North Carolina taxes gross sports betting revenues at a rate of 18%.

In fiscal year 2025, the total gross sports betting revenue reported by the operators was more than $647 million.

June Closes Out 2025 Fiscal Year

The North Carolina Lottery Commission reported $420,731,054 in online sports betting handle for June. The close of June ended the state’s 2025 fiscal year.

Operators reported more than $12.4 million in promo sports betting handle, for a total of $433,184,675 in handle for the month. Account holders won $372,183,030 from the licensed operators in June.

The commission also reported $58,071,308 in total gross wagering revenue for the month, which led to $10,452,835 in tax revenue for the month. It was nearly a $1.3 million reduction in tax revenue compared with the May totals.

November 2024 Most Profitable Month

In the past fiscal year, the North Carolina Lottery Commission reported $6,413,226,490 in total online sports betting handle and $647,693,353 in gross wagering revenue. Unfortunately, the commission does not split out revenue and handle totals for the state’s eight licensed sports betting operators.

According to the commission, November 2024 was the state’s most profitable month of sports betting. The state took in $14,050,320 in sports betting tax revenues from $78,057,335 in gross wagering revenue for the month.

March 2025 saw the most handle, as customers bet more than $667.058 million.

  • August 2024: $357,332,210 total handle, $6,074,518 tax revenue
  • September 2024: $538,367,688 total handle, $12,611,330 tax revenue
  • October 2024: $591,620,485 total handle, $8,901,085 tax revenue
  • November 2024: $639,244,423 total handle, $14,050,320 tax revenue
  • December 2024: $613,149,731 total handle, $6,429,218 tax revenue
  • January 2025: $623,301,614 total handle, $13,415,424 tax revenue
  • February 2025: $525,971,104 total handle, $10,018,604 tax revenue
  • March 2025: $667,058,573 total handle, $6,865,265 tax revenue
  • April 2025: $560,666,439 total handle, $8,424,668 tax revenue
  • May 2025: $547,812,855 total handle, $11,740,881 tax revenue
  • June 2025: $420,731,054 total handle, $10,452,835 tax revenue
