Penn National Gaming identified the theScore Bet as the company’s leading brand in Ontario, Canada during a recent Q3 earnings presentation.

Penn National Gaming Set to Enter Ontario with theScore Bet for Canada Sports Betting

With single-game sports betting legalized and set to go-live across Canada, Penn National will lead the way in the province of Ontario with theScore Bet platform.

As an established sports media company in Canada, theScore has a ton of brand name recognition in the Great White North. Penn National Gaming completed their acquisition of the Canadian sports media giant back in late October, and now they’ll utilize theScore Bet’s online betting platform to reach new sports bettors in Canada.

Barstool Sports Expected to Support theScore Bet with Marketing Efforts

There was some question whether Penn National Gaming would launch with theScore Bet or Barstool Sportsbook, another sportsbook owned by the gambling conglomerate headquartered in Pennsylvania.

During a recent Q3 earnings report, Penn National confirmed they’ll use theScore Bet, with marketing support provided by Barstool Sports.

Jay Snowden, President and CEO for Penn National, said “Barstool’s wide, top-of-funnel audience reach is highly complementary to the news, scores and stats available on theScore’s best in class media app, which will create a one-stop destination for the sports fan that does not exist today.”

When Will theScore Bet Launch in Canada?

Single-game sports betting in Canada is technically legal and live, although theScore Bet is not readily available. Sportsbooks like theScore Bet are expected to launch in provinces like Ontario, Alberta, and British Columbia first later this year.

Making parlays with platforms like PROLINE has been available in six provinces for many years but making single-game wagers was outlawed. That all changed when Bill C-218 passed in June 2021.
