Sometimes the truth is a little less interesting than a good rumor.
A rumor spread throughout social media on Tuesday, June 24, claiming that FanDuel modified its terms and conditions to make it easier for the sportsbook to void winning bets of customers who tail the suggestions of other bettors.
However, according to FanDuel customer service the identified terms and conditions in question have not changed.
No FanDuel Bets Voided in New Jersey
A rumor began circulating on X on Tuesday, June 24, as a sports betting account claimed FanDuel updated its terms and conditions to more easily void bets for users who tail successful bettors. User @incarceratedbob posted on X that New Jersey FanDuel users won more than $2.2 million on a home run parlay that was capped by Washington Nationals’ James Wood hitting a home run against the San Diego Padres.
Since being published on Tuesday, June 24, the post has garnered more than 676,000 views and has been shared more than 668 times.
The X user claimed FanDuel immediately changed two conditions to its house rules in response to the loss in New Jersey, making it easier for the sportsbook to void winning user bets. The conditions the social media user pointed out read the following:
- 15.2.5. We suspect that your Account’s usage could represent ‘business usage’ (‘business usage’ includes any use by a betting operator or any use by an individual or organization supplying data or services to a betting operator);
- 8.13. FanDuel Sportsbook reserves the right to void any or all Bets made by, any group of people acting in conjunction with each other, or any individual acting alone, in an attempt to defraud FanDuel Sportsbook.
While FanDuel did update its terms and conditions on June 24, it was a pre-scheduled update that coincidentally matched up with a home run parlay hitting in New Jersey.
No bets have been voided in the Garden State regarding the home run parlay.
The identified terms and conditions from the X user are standard across all of FanDuel’s states and are automatically included during each state launch. The June 24 update only included FanDuel’s new mailing address and a new term and condition involving athlete harassment:
- 8.25. We may, in our sole discretion, suspend or terminate your Account and/or exclude you from the Services if we determine that you pose a threat to the safety of participants in a sporting event or discover that you engaged in the harassment of a sports official, coach, or any participate in a sporting event.
