It’s the end of an era on Saturday, as Derek Chisora will step into the ring for the last time. The 42-year-old will take on Deontay Wilder, who’s no spring chicken himself, with Wilder still holding onto hopes of getting another title shot.

The former longtime WBC heavyweight champ desperately needs a victory over Chisora to get himself back in the title conversation, and despite online sportsbooks siding against him, I’m convinced he’s going to get the job done.

This heavyweight tilt will take place in London, at the O2 arena, with Dazn providing streaming coverage. The undercard gets underway at 2pm ET, with Wilder and Chisora projected to enter the ring around 5 pm ET.

My favorite bet for this fight is Wilder to win by knockout. Few boxers in the history of the sport have one-punch power as devastating as the former champ’s, and his knockout percentage is the stuff of legends.

Chisora meanwhile, has been knocked out more than a few times in his career, and I expect him to let his guard down as fatigue sets in over the final few rounds. That’s when Wilder can strike, and score the finishing blow.

Wilder sports a career 97.72% knockout rate, which is the best all-time in the history of the heavyweight division.

He stands a full 5 inches taller than Chisora, and boasts a 9 inch reach advantage. That’s devastating for Chisora, who wants to get in tight and throw punches at point blank range. Wilder should be able to fend him off with the jab, and bide his time while trying to create space for the knockout blow.

Chisora has the tendency to start out with his hair on fire, before slowing down as the rounds progress. If he can’t get in close and take out Wilder early, his chances for success dramatically decrease.

The 42-year-old is a competent opponent but there’s a reason why he’s never been the heavyweight champ. He’s only effective when he can dictate the bout, and that simply won’t happen against a bigger, more powerful fighter like Wilder.

Tale of the Tape

The reason he’s earning favorite status is because the betting public has been discouraged by Wilder’s recent efforts. He’s looked timid over his last few fights, losing twice, and taking far too long to finish a lesser opponent in Tyrrell Herndon.

But while this is Chisora’s last fight, it can also be Wilder’s final opportunity to prove he’s worthy of a title bout. If he loses, he’s unlikely to get another shot at the belt which signals to me we’re going to get a much more inspired effort.

Chisora has never been one to walk into an opponent’s fist, so I don’t expect him to go down multiple times. When Wilder does drop him, it will be late in the fight when his opponent is already gassed, drastically reducing the likelihood that he gets back to his feet.
