Erislandy Lara’s Career Rolls on
Erislandy Lara is a well regarded, multi-time champion who has fought many a well-respected opponent over his career.
One such example is when he fought ranked superstar Canelo Alvarez in a hotly contested July 2014 bout. Lara got his revenge in his last outing by KOing Canelo’s older brother, Roman Alvarez, in August 2019.

Greg Vendetti has put together back-to-back wins, with his last outing being a unanimous decision victory over Michael Anderson in July 2019 that saw him capture the IBA world super welterweight championship.
Lara and Vendetti have had similarly long layoffs and this will be the first fight of 2020 for both men.
Greg Vendetti’s Rocky Moment
For Vendetti, he has been told for years by his trainer that he has a style that would give Lara trouble. In a recent media call, Vendetti said that when he got the call to fight Erislandy Lara, he “took it as a real sign”.
Vendetti is a largely unheralded #11 ranked WBA contender but could send a huge ripple effect through super welterweight this weekend.
The former plumber could vault himself from that journeyman tier and cement himself as a top-level fighter with a victory of this magnitude.
TITLE FIGHT! 🥊@Laraboxing will defend his WBA (regular) Super Welterweight Title vs Greg Vendetti. Also, @ElPERRO82 and @GoldenCalebT will battle in a 168-pound title eliminator fight

This battle of top 154 pounders likely punches their ticket to fight the winner of Jermell Charlo vs Jeison Rosario on September 26th. As much as there are big stakes attached to this particular bout, the stakes get even higher for the victor as the path to unifying the belts continues.

There has been murmurs on Lara losing his speed and agility in the ring that he once had during his prime as of late. Although his reflexive capabilities aren’t as sharp as they once were, I still think he has a lot more in the tank and will put on a boxing masterclass against Vendetti.
I think Lara will be able to secure the stoppage victory inside of eight rounds after chipping away at his durable adversary.
Pick: Erislandy Lara (-4131)
Main Card Picks for Lara vs Vendetti
- Caleb Truax vs Alfredo Angulo: This bout is an IBF super-middleweight title eliminator and is positioned as the co-main event. Angulo has struggled with consistency over the years with a 6-6 record in his last twelve with consecutive victories giving way to losing skids. Truax has more momentum coming into this and I see the former IBF super-middleweight champion winning via decision. Pick: Caleb Truax (-171)
