Mayweather Favored in Opening Mayweather vs Pacquiao Odds
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that Mayweather is the favorite here. He’s never lost a professional fight, and he beat Pacquiao pretty comfortably the first time around. All three scorecards went his way in 2015, including one 118-110 card that wasn’t close at all.
That said, there are real questions about Mayweather at this stage. He turned 49 in February, and his last professional fight was the Conor McGregor bout back in 2017. Everything since then has been exhibitions against YouTubers, reality TV guys and other non-boxers. That’s a long time away from fights that actually count.
Pacquiao, meanwhile, has stayed busier. He’s fought eight times since their first meeting, picking up wins over Keith Thurman, Adrien Broner and Lucas Matthysse. His most recent outing was a majority draw against then-WBC welterweight champ Mario Barrios last July. He’s 47 and clearly not the fighter he was 15 years ago, but he’s still active and competitive.
This will be a sanctioned professional fight that goes on both records. That’s a big deal for Mayweather. His 50-0 record is on the line, and Pacquiao has said openly that he wants to “haunt” Floyd by handing him his first loss. Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 Date, Rules and How to Watch
The fight takes place on Saturday, Sept. 19 at Sphere in Las Vegas. This will be only the second sporting event held at the venue after UFC 306 in September 2024.
Netflix will stream the fight live worldwide as part of all subscription plans. No additional pay-per-view purchase is needed. Ring walk times haven’t been announced yet, but the event is currently listed for a 6:00 PM ET start.
Both fighters agreed this had to be a real fight, not an exhibition. It’s a welterweight bout that will count on both of their professional records. Exact round length and glove size details haven’t been confirmed, but the fight will follow professional boxing standards.
Early Mayweather vs Pacquiao 2 Analysis
The first fight was criticized for being boring, and Pacquiao claimed a shoulder injury held him back. Whether or not that’s true, Mayweather controlled the entire fight with his jab and defensive movement. He made it look easy.
Both fighters are now in their late 40s, which could actually level the playing field. Mayweather’s speed and reflexes will have declined over eight years of limited activity. Pacquiao has slowed down too, but he’s at least been in real fights recently.
If Mayweather still has the defensive instincts and ring IQ that made him special, he should be able to outpoint Pacquiao again. But if the years away from professional competition have caught up with him, Pacquiao could make this one interesting. We’ll update with a full prediction and best props as odds continue to develop.
