Yordenis Ugas and Abel Ramos will trade bombs inside Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California, this Sunday (Sep. 6th, 8:00 PM ET). Ugas vs Ramos is a Premier Boxing Champions main event and will broadcast on FOX.
The vacant WBA regular world welterweight title is up for grabs after Alexander Besputin was stripped due to a positive drug test. Ugas and Ramos are ranked at #1 and #6, respectively, by the WBA.
Yordenis Ugas vs Abel Ramos Odds

Yordenis Ugas | -1560 |
Abel Ramos | +835 |
Odds as of September 3rd.
The WBA regular world title is a secondary belt just below current WBA world titlist Manny Pacquiao.
The winner of this bout could put themselves into a prime position for a high-takes unification bout and the most lucrative purse of their career opposite one of the biggest boxing stars of this generation.
Yordenis Ugas’ Path Back to a World Title Shot
There’s a bit of a redemptive element in this fight for Ugas who, in the eyes of many, was recently cheated out of the WBC world title. Many thought Ugas did enough to warrant a decision win over Shawn Porter in March of last year only to lose via controversial split decision.
Since that questionable defeat to Porter, Ugas has put together back-to-back wins in the last year to redirect his path towards another world title opportunity.
I've been winning championships since I was 10 years old.I won 12 consecutive championships in 12 years in Cuba.I am an Olympic medalist and a double amateur world champ.I escaped by boat from Cuba more than 10 years ago to be a professional and champ.Sunday is the day. #teamugas pic.twitter.com/oIZqAJc3WY

This is a killer fight that further bolsters a stacked weekend for fans of the sweet science.
Ugas looks to become the first Cuban welterweight champion in close to fifty years and the quest to achieve this has galvanized his recent training efforts more than ever before.
Ramos’ Chance to Break Through to the Next Level
Ramos is riding an eight-fight win streak heading into this contest and he has scored TKOs in seven of those eight victories.
Ramos has been able to handle a certain caliber of competition but all his losses and draws came in instances where he was looking to step up to the next tier.
In his last outing, Abel Ramos secured a come from behind TKO victory with seconds left in the final round 👌

These 147-pounders completely mirror each other in terms of height, reach, and stance. Ramos has the edge in terms of knockout rate (77 percent to 48 percent) but Ugas has unquestionably faced better opposition and has the edge in terms of quality of resume.
Ramos actually has a first-round TKO victory in October 2018 over someone simply listed as “unknown”, enough said.
Ugas vs Ramos Tale of the Tape
25-4 | Record | 26-3-2 |
12 | Knockouts | 20 |
5’9 | Height | 5’9 |
69″ | Reach | 69″ |
Jamal James, Omar Figueroa Jr, Bryant Perrella | Significant Wins | Bryant Perrella, Jimmy Williams, Emanuel Robles |
Orthodox | Stance | Orthodox |
The amateur experience and elite pugilistic pedigree of Ugas will prove the difference-maker in this one. He’ll be able to dictate the pace and set the rhythm; expect the Cuban to be offensively effective and defensively airtight.
In the end, I see the 2008 Olympic bronze medalist giving Ramos a boxing lesson en route to winning on points.
Pick: Yordenis Ugas (-1560)
