The launch of online sports betting in Missouri is drawing closer. On December 1, the state will begin its online gambling expansion.

Many top operators are looking to get into the mix, having earned a license or seeking to get one. That includes brands like DraftKings, FanDuel, Caesars, BetMGM, ESPN BET and more.

These are not only some of the biggest names in sports betting, but also in online casinos.

Will their presence in the state, combined with the launch of online sports betting, help Missouri move closer to legalized iGaming?

Last November, sports betting in Missouri narrowly passed a vote at the polls, allowing in-person and online wagers to be made.

Missouri will have the new betting option go live on December 1. The first two operators to receive licenses were DraftKings and Circa, who each received an untethered license through the Missouri Gaming Commission.

That means these two can operate without a tie to one of the brick-and-mortar casinos in the state, or one of the professional sports franchises.

DraftKings Missouri has its mobile app available for download now. You can use the available link to download DraftKings now and visit the app on November 17 to begin setting up your account. That way, when December 1 comes, you will be ready to go and take advantage of any launch offers and promotions DraftKings may have.

Since the initial two licenses were handed out, we’ve seen other access partnerships announced for operators like FanDuel, Fanatics, Underdog, and more.

Status of Missouri Online Casinos

Online casinos are not legal in the state of Missouri, but sports betting was also illegal at one point.

While there has been no recent discussion of legalizing iGaming, that doesn’t rule it out forever. It’s understandable that Missouri would currently be focused on its sports betting rollout.

With the hopes of driving up tax revenue for the state, Missouri is doing its part to make sports betting successful. Should that happen, and tax revenue numbers surpass expectations, it could further open the door for online casinos to come to the state.

There’s still plenty of detractors for gambling expansion. The public vote itself was nearly 50-50.

The good news for Missouri is that iCasino is something that has been discussed before by legislators.

Multiple bills and provisions have been introduced over recent years, but didn’t gain traction. Online casino establishment was even paired with sports betting in some instance, but lawmakers weren’t able to come to a mutual agreement on the matter.

Should sports betting prove successful, these discussions are likely to resume as online casinos are bringing in far more tax revenue for the states they exist in than sports betting.

How Long Would it Take to Launch Missouri Online Casinos

Those itching for iGaming in Missouri are going to have to be patient.

It’s one step for legalization, it’s another step to actually launch the product.

As we saw with sports betting, it will eventually take 13 months to get that launched following the successful public vote. Voters passed the option in November 2024 and now things will launch on December 1, 2025.

Online casinos are no different. In each of the seven states where it is legal, the timeline from legalization to launch has been many months.

Online Casino StateOnline Casino LegalizationOnline Casino Launch
ConnecticutMay 2021October 2021
DelawareJune 2012November 2013
MichiganDecember 2019January 2021
New JerseyFebruary 2013November 2013
PennsylvaniaOctober 2017July 2019
Rhode IslandJune 2023March 2024
West VirginiaMarch 2019July 2020

Even if a bill were to somehow be passed in 2026, which is unlikely, launch of online casinos wouldn’t be until 2027. The state is going to want to wait to see how sports betting plays out before having serious discussions on further gambling expansion.

Don’t expect much talk about online casinos until at least 2027, and even that could be a bit of a reach.
