Missouri online casinos

It’s a big day in the state of Missouri.

While online sports betting in Missouri won’t officially begin until December 1, pre-registration for accounts began earlier today.

It’s the next step in the expansion of online gambling in the state, leaving one of the next logical questions as when can Missouri expect online casinos?

Missouri Sportsbooks Accepting Pre-Registration

Starting on Monday, multiple online sportsbooks that will be available in Missouri began accepting pre-registration for accounts.

This allowed customers to sign up for an account, deposit funds and see what welcome promotions were available. However, no legal sports wagers will be placed prior to Dec. 1.

Among the available online sportsbooks in Missouri are:

Each will be providing their own experience and Missouri sportsbook promo code offers.

Online Casino Status in Missouri

While online sports betting is set to get started next month, online casinos aren’t making as much headway in Missouri.

In previous years, legislation has been introduced that would bring iGaming to the state, but didn’t garner a lot of traction. There were also bills that would pair online casinos and online sports betting legislation. However, state lawmakers were torn on trying to legalize and regulate both.

Right now, those hoping for Missouri online casinos should want to see the successful launch of online sports betting.

Should the state see improved tax revenue without a big increase in problem gambling or gambling-related crime, it would likely open the door further for iGaming.

Online casino tax revenue far outweighs sports betting. Should Missouri see benefits over the first year of sports betting, it may want to increase that with the addition of online casino revenue.

There’s more to work out with iGaming from a regulatory and security standpoint, so it can be a bigger hurdle to work out legislation, but tax revenue is always a good motivator.

When Could Missouri Launch Online Casinos

Again, with online sports betting at the forefront in Missouri, online casinos aren’t likely going to get serious consideration for some time.

Even if lawmakers change their tune on iGaming expansion, making it legal and launching the industry takes quite a bit of time.

Just look at online sports betting in the state. Missouri voters passed the option in November of last year. Yet, the launch isn’t taking place until Dec. 1. That is a 13-month window.

Things won’t be much different for online casinos. Where iGaming is legal, each of the seven states needed at least half-a-year to launch the product after legalization.

In most cases, it took over a year to get the product to the public.

StateOC LegalizationOC Launch
ConnecticutMay 2021October 2021
DelawareJune 2012November 2013
MichiganDecember 2019January 2021
New JerseyFebruary 2013November 2013
PennsylvaniaOctober 2017July 2019
Rhode IslandJune 2023March 2024
West VirginiaMarch 2019July 2020

So, even if Missouri were to expedite the process and pass an online casino bill during the 2026 legislative session, it would still require a public vote.

From there, it could take about another year to get regulations in place for operators to begin offering their products legally in the state.

The most optimistic outlook for Missouri online casinos is late 2027, but it’s more likely nothing would happen until at least 2028.
