Day 1 of regionals is in the books, and four #1 seeds lost their opening games to four seeds. Oregon State, Ole Miss, Oregon, and Southern Miss all face elimination on Saturday. They are at home, but will have to battle back if they want to continue their road to Omaha.
There are plenty of great matchups today, both in the winner’s bracket and in the loser’s bracket of each regional. Keep reading for my college baseball best bets for the regional games played on May 31.
College World Series Picks
College Baseball Pick #1: Southern Miss ML vs Alabama
The host of the Hattiesburg regional was shocked by Columbia on Friday night, losing 11-4. Starter Matt Adams allowed 16 hits, while the Golden Eagles could not get anything going offensively. Despite that, I believe Southern Miss will bounce back against Alabama on Saturday.
Yes, Southern Miss lost to Alabama earlier this season, but that was in Tuscaloosa, and it was a midweek game. Now, they have JB Middleton on the bump, who has a 2.01 ERA this season. The Golden Eagles might have gotten lit up on Friday night, but they were smart not to use too many of their pitchers. Middleton gives them a great chance to get back into this regional. Hattiesburg is still an electric atmosphere, so I expect Alabama to feel more pressure.
The Crimson Tide are an inconsistent team, and while they fought back vs. Miami, they allowed too many runs early in their first game. Their lineup has a low batting average, and they should struggle against Middleton. Their bullpen also has had its struggles this season, so I am predicting that the Golden Eagles go up early and hold onto their lead to stay alive in the Hattiesburg regional.

College Baseball Pick #2: ETSU -2.5 vs Wright State
I bet on ETSU to beat Louisville on Friday. That did not go as planned, but I still like them against the 4-seed in the Nashville regional. Wright State was up 3-0 over Vanderbilt and had a no-hitter going. Still, the Raiders decided to pull their pitcher after roughly 75 pitches. The result was allowing a home run in the first at-bat after going to the bullpen. Wright State fought hard, but now that they don’t have their ace for this game, I expect ETSU’s offense to take advantage.
The Buccaneers average just under 10 runs a game, and will be playing a team that is much more what they are used to. ETSU went 41-15 this year, and they now face elimination. They should tee off on Wright State’s pitchers and score plenty of runs to cover the runline.
College Baseball Pick #3: Oregon/Georgia Tech ML Parlay
Oregon was shocked by Utah Valley on Friday night. That is now back-to-back surprising losses for the Ducks. They lost to Nebraska in the Big Ten Tournament, then lost in their first regional to the 4-seed. I still believe this Oregon team will beat Cal Poly on Saturday.
Cal Poly looked good against Arizona and lost a tough one after outhitting the Wildcats 10-2. They will be hurting after that loss, and I predict the Ducks will bounce back with their ace, Grayson Grinsell, on the mound. Cal Poly does have a good offense, but I like Oregon to stay alive in their regional for the first leg of this parlay.
Georgia Tech felt disrespected as a 2-seed, and I like them to win their regional. The Yellow Jackets beat Western Kentucky 9-2 and now face 4-seed Murray State in the winner’s bracket. The Racers upset Ole Miss on Friday, but now that they used their ace, Georgia Tech should have no problem in this matchup. They are 11th in the country in OPS and should put up a lot of runs against Murray State.
College Baseball Pick #4: Duke/Georgia Over 14.5
Athens is a great ballpark for hitters, and Georgia and Duke should both see plenty of runs on Saturday.
Georgia just scored 20 on Binghampton, and Duke put up 12 against a talented Oklahoma State team. The Bulldogs are especially great at home, hitting 96 home runs at Foley Field this season. Duke is one of the top teams in the country in OPS, so both of these lineups should see success in the winner’s bracket.
Duke’s pitching is also worrisome after Owen Proksch, who pitched in their first regional game vs Oklahoma State. Expect a lot of runs to be scored in Athens on Saturday night.
