Wake Forest vs Miami Predictions
Expectations for the Demon Deacons are high in Knoxville this weekend, as they’re supposed to contend with Tennessee for a spot in the next round. Wake Forest is loaded with MLB prospects, especially at the dish.
Offense wasn’t a problem in their 11-6 loss to Cincinnati on Friday, as the team clubbed 4 home runs. Freshman Dalton Wentz launched a pair of home runs, giving him 4 dingers in his last two games. Jack Winnay extended his hitting streak to nine games with a solo home run, notching his 60th RBI in the process. Not to be outdone, future 1st round pick Marek Houston had a pair of hits, including his 13th bomb of the season.
The pitching however, was an issue. Ace Blake Morningstar had his worst outing of the season. He coughed 10 runs and 3 homers over 4.1 innings, putting the Demon Deacons in a hole too big to climb out of.
Wake Forest is now expected to turn to sophomore Matthew Dallas, who’s not entering play in top form. The Tennessee transfer has allowed 7 runs over his past 8 innings, and is battling control issues. He’s walked three or more batters in three of his last five starts, and has failed to make it out of the 5th inning seven times over his last nine outings.
Matthew Dallas vs Clayton Burke Stats
As for the RedHawks, they fell behind early as well and never mounted a fight in a 9-2 loss to the Volunteers. Team ace Cooper Katskee was rocked for 6 hits and 4 runs in only 3.1 innings of work, while the team dug themselves an 8-1 hole before the game was even 5 innings old.
The RedHawks will likely turn to Clayton Burke with their season on the line, hoping we can replicate his most recent start. That was an 8 inning outing in the Mac Tournament Final victory over Toledo. It was his longest performance of the season, after struggling for most of the campaign. Burke owns a 6.02 ERA, and has shelled out four or more runs five times, and five or more runs on three separate occasions.

SPORTSBOOK
Burke and the rest of the RedHawks staff will have their hands full with this potent Demon Deacons lineup. Wake Forest is one of only a handful of teams in the nation who’ve gone deep 100+ times. Five different players have hit double-digit home runs, while nine hitters on the roster carry an OPS north of .900.
The Demon Deacons average over 8 runs per game, and as a team are slashing .308/.430/.534. The play in a much tougher conference than the RedHawks, and I’m betting they bounce back with a convincing win on Saturday.
Not only are the RedHawks facing a superior team, they’re doing so on short rest. They’ll take the field on Saturday less than 14 hours after their loss to Tennessee. They mustered only five hits against the Vols, while striking out 12 times. I predict they’ll have a bit more success at the dish against Wake Forest, but not nearly enough to keep their College World Series hopes alive.
