How to Watch Iowa vs Maryland

The Big Ten Conference Tournament continues on Wednesday, March 11, at 12:00 pm ET, as the Iowa Hawkeyes (20-11, 10-10 Big Ten, 18-13 ATS) clash with the Maryland Terrapins (12-20, 4-16 Big Ten, 15-17 ATS) at the United Center in Chicago. This second-round clash will stream live on Peacock.

Iowa enters this neutral-site matchup well rested, while the Terps face a brutally quick turnaround following a 70-60 opening-round victory over Oregon yesterday.

The teams split their regular-season meetings – each winning on its home court (83-64 Iowa, 77-70 Maryland). Iowa is looking to stem a three-game losing streak, overall. The Terps’ win over Oregon yesterday ended a four-game skid.

Maryland vs Iowa Picks

This spread is about 2.5 or 3.0 points higher than it would be if Maryland wasn’t at a rest disadvantage. Maryland head coach Buzz Williams leaned completely on his starting frontcourt to survive Oregon, with Elijah Saunders logging a grueling 39 minutes and Solomon Washington playing 36 minutes.

But the fatigue factor will be more prominent in the second half. Listed at +12.5 on the full-game spread, Maryland is as long as +6.5 in the first 20 minutes, which undervalues the Terps slightly.

ATS Pick: First-Half Spread – Maryland +6.5 (-105) at Fanatics

The situational spot heavily favors the rested favorite. Fatigue is the ultimate equalizer in March, and asking a Terrapins squad with an Adjusted Winning Percentage of just 0.3191 to produce back-to-back high-intensity performances on dead legs is a mathematical reach.

I’m not backing Maryland to pull off another upset of the Hawkeyes, or even keep the game close over the full 40 minutes, but they should have plenty in the tank to stay competitive for a half.

Over/Under Pick: Under 134.5 (-108 at DraftKings)

While both sides go through occasional scoring bursts, Maryland’s offensive consistency is a glaring red flag. Guard Darius Adams was a liability from the floor in their opening game, shooting a dismal 10% (1-for-10) overall and 0-for-5 from deep. Even leading scorer David Coit struggled with his perimeter efficiency, converting just 25% (3-for-12) of his three-point attempts.

Iowa enters the Big Ten Tournament in a prolonged slump, losing three in a row without eclipsing 70 points in regulation.

Both teams play at a slow pace (Iowa 358th, Maryland 254th). Factoring in the inevitable heavy legs of a back-to-back and Maryland’s erratic true-shooting percentage, prolonged scoring lulls are highly probable. Play the under.

Maryland vs Iowa Odds (March 11)

The game total ranges from 134.0 (Caesars) to 134.5 (DraftKings).

Iowa/Maryland Betting Splits

Analyzing Wednesday’s college basketball public betting splits provides a critical look at how the market is attacking this game. When evaluating these numbers.

In the moneyline market, the public is heavily backing the rested favorite. Iowa currently commands 95% of the betting tickets and 88% of the ML handle. Because both the ticket count and the money percentage favor Iowa well above the 60% threshold, there is no apparent sharp-vs-public divide here. The entire market is fading the fatigued underdog.

The Over/Under market is heavily anticipating a shootout, with 88% of the betting tickets and 83% of the total stake riding on the OVER. Again, with both metrics exceeding 60% on the same side, there is no sharp-vs-public discrepancy. I’m still fading the public on the total, though: the overwhelming public confidence in a shootout completely ignores Maryland’s erratic shooting and the punishing reality of a back-to-back tournament schedule, not to mention the lethargic pace of both teams.

Yes, they went into the 140s in both regular-season meetings, but those were anomalous outcomes in lower-stakes games. Taking the UNDER serves as a sharp, data-backed contrarian fade against the heavily inflated public handle.
