How to Watch Liberty vs George Mason

The 2026 NIT tips off with a compelling first-round clash as George Mason (23-9, 17-2 home, 16-15 ATS) hosts Liberty (25-7, 10-2 away, 12-17 ATS) at 6:00 pm ET on Tuesday, March 17, at EagleBank Arena in Fairfax, Virginia. THe game will be broadcast live on ESPN2.

George Mason finished fifth in the A-10 before falling to St Bonaventure in the conference tournament. They face a stiff test against a dangerous Liberty squad that won the C-USA regular-season title before a shocking quarterfinal upset loss to Missouri State.

I am keeping a close eye on the injury report, as George Mason guard Fatt Hill is questionable with an ankle issue, which could impact the backcourt rotation.

The current betting lines reflect a competitive postseason clash, with George Mason positioned as a standard 3.5-point home favorite. Notably, the market has shown early respect for Liberty, moving the home team’s moneyline down to -190 after opening at a steeper -225.

Meanwhile, the game total has also seen downward movement in Tuesday’s college basketball odds, shifting from 143.5 down to 141.5, with standard -110 juice on both sides.

At prediction site Kalshi, GMU to win is trading at 63¢ (equal to a -170 moneyline price) and Liberty at 38¢ (equal to a +163 moneyline price).

George Mason vs Liberty ATS Pick: LIB +3.5 (-104 at FanDuel)

George Mason has established a formidable 17-2 record on its home floor, but giving a full possession to a team that has been an absolute terror on the road is a risky proposition.

Digging into the away slate reveals a battle-tested unit that thrives in hostile territory. Liberty is an outstanding 9-1 straight-up in their last 10 away games – a 90% win rate – pulling off impressive outright victories against the likes of FIU, Sam Houston, and Jacksonville State. Because of this dominant road success rate and a superior RPI ranking of #43 compared to George Mason at #59, backing Liberty +3.5 (-110) is my sharpest play on the board.

For bettors hunting a bigger payout, the road moneyline at +158 decent value given their proven ability to close out tight games away from home. From a scheduling perspective, they have been flawless against upper-middle-tier competition, logging a perfect 3-0 record against teams ranked between 51 and 100 in the NET rankings.

George Mason relies heavily on their interior defense, but they have proven vulnerable when opponents space the floor; I expect Liberty – which sits sixth in all of DI in three-point percentage at a blistering 39.2% – to exploit this by prioritizing high-percentage looks and connecting at a strong clip from the perimeter.

Liberty vs George Mason O/U Pick: Over 141.5 (52¢ at Kalshi)

Moving to the total, the line is set at 141.5 points, and I am confidently leaning toward the Over (-110). The road offense has traveled exceptionally well, turning many of their contests into high-scoring affairs driven by efficient FG% metrics. A deep dive into their recent performances highlights a highly profitable trend: Overs are 7-3 (70%) in their last 10 road games when measuring against totals above 140. With both squads capable of finding their rhythm early, taking Over 141.5 (-110) is my preferred play for the full-game total.

While individual player props are limited early in the postseason, team and situational props offer early value. The first-half total sits at a highly attainable 66.5 points (-115 for the Over). Considering the tendency for this matchup to turn into an early shootout – similar to the 191-point combined thriller at FIU – expect offensive fireworks right out of the gate.

George Mason vs Liberty Betting Splits

Tracking the college basketball public betting splits can provide invaluable insights into sharp-money trends.

When analyzing the ATS market, bettors are strongly aligned with my ATS pick. Liberty is drawing significant backing as the road underdog, commanding 72.8% of the betting tickets. More importantly, they are securing an even larger share of the overall handle, with 75.61% of the money riding on them to cover. Since both the ticket volume and the crucial money metric heavily favor the underdog – easily clearing the 60% threshold – there is a clear consensus.

However, the moneyline market tells a completely different story. The betting public overwhelmingly expects the home team to survive and advance. George Mason is dominating the moneyline splits, pulling in a massive 92.35% of the tickets and holding onto 79.16% of the total stake.

In the totals market, the action leans slightly toward a lower-scoring affair. The Under currently accounts for 55.73% of the tickets and an even higher 57.81% of the total stake. Conversely, the Over has captured 44.27% of the tickets and just 42.19% of the money. Since I previously identified the Over 141.5 as one of the best plays for this matchup based on persistent road scoring trends, I find myself positioned against the grain.
