Auburn Routs MSU to Advance

Auburn used a 17-0 run midway through the first half to turn an early 8-6 deficit into a 23-8 lead. They would never trail thereafter. SEC Player of the Year Johni Broome (18.5 PG, 10.8 RPG, 2.9 APG) had a monster night with 22 points and 12 rebounds with 3.5 minutes still on the clock. He exited the game late with an apparent elbow/arm injury but after several minutes in the locker room triumphantly returned to the court with 5:29 to play.

In the first three rounds of the tournament, Auburn dusted #16 Alabama State (83-63), #9 Creighton (82-70), and #5 Michigan (78-65). The Tigers did trail the Wolverines by as many as eight in the second half before turning up the dial in the final 15 minutes to easily cover as 9.5-point favorites.
