Both squads are riding the momentum of dominant opening-round victories. Alabama orchestrated a gritty 90-70 comeback victory over Hofstra, while Texas Tech dismantled Akron 91-71.

The Crimson Tide and the Red Raiders are dealing with key absences ahead of this contest, with Alabama minus second leading scorer Aden Holloway due to suspension, and Texas Tech star JT Toppin headlining the March Madness injuries.

The biggest mismatch I see is Alabama’s massive frontcourt advantage, led by Aiden Sherrell. He absolutely owned the paint against Hofstra, ripping down 15 rebounds, including nine on the offensive glass.

Meanwhile, Texas Tech’s top rebounders managed just six boards apiece in their opener. Without Toppin anchoring the middle, the Red Raiders have a glaring vulnerability inside.

I’m expecting Sherrell to generate the crucial second-chance points Alabama needs to pull out this victory. He is a phenomenal value to feast on the glass against the smaller interior defense of Texas Tech.

Texas Tech guard Jaylen Petty is shooting a blistering 71.4% from beyond the arc in tournament play, and he and his teammates boast the third highest 3-point shooting percentage in the country.

Alabama guard Labaron Philon Jr just dropped 29 points and seven assists in the 1st Round, and is the key to the Crimson Tide’s blistering offense. Alabama averages the third most field goal attempts in the nation this season, while yielding more than virtually every other program. The pace will be absolutely frantic.

When evaluating resumes, Alabama owns a 10-7 record (58.8% win rate) against RPI top-50 teams this season. Texas Tech is a concerning 6-9 in those same high-leverage spots.

The Crimson Tide’s proven ability to execute against upper-echelon competition makes them the smart outright play. They extend possessions, dictating the tempo from start to finish. Give me Alabama on the moneyline.
