The Akron Zips (4-7, 3-4 in the MAC) and Bowling Green Falcons (3-7, 1-5 in the MAC) battle for Ohio supremacy on Tuesday night. Doyt L. Perry Stadium plays host to a 7:00 PM ET kickoff on Nov. 18 for Tuesday MACtion. The game will be broadcast on ESPN.
I have finalized my Akron vs Bowling Green prediction and provided my pick for Tuesday night. Additionally, I have given the betting line for this battle between Ohio squads.
Akron vs Bowling Green Prediction
- Akron 24, Bowling Green 20

Akron will finish below .500 once again, but they were much more respectable this season. After an 0-3 start, Akron has gone 4-4 in its last eight games with a much more effective offense. Former Mississippi State head coach Joe Moorhead has the Zips poised for their best season since 2017 with a win on Tuesday night.
Ben Finley has been one of the top quarterbacks in the conference. He leads the way with 18 passing touchdowns, and he should surpass 2,500 yards on the season on Tuesday. Last week versus Kent State, Finley tossed three touchdowns and a whopping 424 passing yards.
For the best running back in the conference, look no further than Jordan Gant. Gant leads the conference with 946 yards, and he will likely secure a 1,000-yard season for the Zips. He has seven total touchdowns, including three in the last two games. Gant has four games in a row with 90 or more rushing yards.
The Zips have three primary receivers, led by Marcel Williams. The Marshall transfer leads the team with 39 catches and 567 yards. Last week, he caught 14 passes for 206 yards and his only two touchdowns of the season. Beyond Williams, Kyan Mason and Israel Polk have performed admirably with 904 yards and 12 touchdowns between them.
On defense, watch for Malcolm DeWalt IV in the secondary. He has two interceptions (including a pick-six) and a forced fumble. He leads the team with 36 solo tackles and 52 total tackles.
Eddie George’s first season at the helm has been a step backward for the Falcons. They started well enough with a 2-1 opening to the season. After getting stomped by Louisville, their MAC slate sent the Falcons spiraling. They salvaged a win over their No. 1 rival Toledo, but they have lost five of six in MAC play.
Calling BGSU’s quarterback play erratic would be doing a disservice to the word “erratic.” For the season, Falcons passers have more interceptions than touchdowns and a sub-60% completion rate. Last week, Hunter Najm stepped in with a solid performance, going 11-for-15 with a touchdown and a pick.
Bowling Green’s rushing attack is a committee approach, but Missouri transfer Austyn Dendy has picked up the slack in recent weeks. In three games, Dendy has averaged just shy of 90 yards per game, scoring three touchdowns. Bowling Green is 0-3 in these games, but Dendy has run well.
Once again, the Falcons’ passing attack goes through a tight end. Last year, it was the unstoppable Harold Fannin Jr., now of the Cleveland Browns. This season, it is Jyrin Johnson, who leads the team with 32 catches and 383 yards. Fellow tight end Jacob Harris leads the team with four receiving touchdowns.
Gideon Lampron is the playmaker of the defense. He has a whopping 14.0 tackles for a loss, 100 total tackles, and a healthy 52 solo tackles—all of which lead the team. He has 1.5 sacks and a pass deflection from the linebacker position.
Akron vs Bowling Green Pick
- Akron +3.5
Here is my justification for taking Akron +3.5 in this Akron vs Bowling Green pick for Tuesday MACtion:
- Bowling Green is in an absolute tailspin. They have lost four games in a row, including an 0-3 mark as favorites. In four games as favorites this season, the Falcons are 0-4 ATS, with their only outright win coming over FCS Lafayette back in Week 1.
- After an 0-3 start, Akron has been pretty competent. As underdogs, they are 2-2 ATS in MAC play with outright wins over Central Michigan (+7) and Buffalo (+10).
- Look no further than these teams’ recent performances against conference mate Buffalo. Akron went on the road as double-digit underdogs and won by eight. Bowling Green welcomed the Bulls to town and were shellacked 28-3 as slight favorites.
Akron vs Bowling Green Line
The sportsbooks have Bowling Green as home favorites for this Tuesday MACtion matchup. The line for the total is set between 46.5 and 47.5 points. Over bettors can get over 46.5 at FanDuel for -110 odds. Under bettors can get under 47.5 on Sports Interaction for -110 odds.
Bowling Green bettors can get the Falcons at -3 on the spread at BetRivers (-122 odds) or -155 on the moneyline at ESPNBet. Akron bettors can get the Zips at +3.5 on the spread at FanDuel (-110 odds) or +150 on the moneyline at DraftKings.
Akron vs Bowling Green Last Five Matchups
Bowling Green has largely dominated the lifetime matchup, holding a 21-10 record. Akron has never won three straight games in the series—a feat Bowling Green is currently doing.
Last season, Bowling Green won in the final minutes with a Harold Fannin Jr. touchdown run. Fannin dominated with 11 touches for 172 yards and the touchdown. Akron kept it close with a 10-0 run in the fourth quarter, but the Zips’ play of the game was a 46-yard scoop-and-score by Liam Reardon.
