Alabama Betting Trends

Look for a bounce-back season from Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide. College football’s pre-eminent brand suffered through a down year in the program’s first campaign without Nick Saban, finishing 9-4 SU and 7-5 ATS to miss the College Football Playoff.

The hype around Alabama isn’t as big as in recent years, as Ty Simpson takes over at quarterback after Jalen Milroe left for the NFL. A former five-star recruit, Simpson has attempted only 50 passes in his career.

Luckily, he’ll be aided by one the sport’s best receiving corps, led by sophomore phenom Ryan Williams. Germie Bernard gives Simpson another top target downfield after he led Alabama in receptions last season, while running back Jam Miller is a consistent backfield threat.

On the other side of the field, the Crimson Tide returns key contributors like corner Domani Jackson, defensive tackle Tim Keenan and safety Keon Sabb. Alabama’s defense remained one of the SEC’s best, holding opponents to under 25 points in eight straight games to finish the year.

The Week 1 betting trends are on Alabama’s side, as the Crimson Tide are a perfect 9-0 ATS to start the year over the last nine seasons.

Florida State Betting Trends

Talk about a down year. After going undefeated in 2023, and missing out on a College Football Playoff spot due to an injury to starting quarterback Jordan Travis, the Seminoles spiraled to a 2-10 disaster last season. Florida State wasn’t any better against the spread, finishing just 2-8-2. Even worse, Florida State went just 2-5 SU in games played at home. That being said, the Seminoles will field a different squad altogether, as only four starters return.

Head coach Mike Norvell is turning to former Boston College quarterback Tommy Castellanos to reinvigorate the squad. Castellanos threw for 18 touchdowns and just five interceptions for the Eagles in the ACC last season. Having said that, Castellanos is far from a pure passer, and he struggled in Bill O’Brien’s pro-style offense.

Welcoming an almost entirely new starting lineup against the perennial juggernaut of the Alabama Crimson Tide in Week 1 is far from a great spot for Florida State. To make matters worse the Seminoles finished last season just 1-5-1 ATS as an underdog.

Alabama vs Florida State Prediction

Florida State are massive 13.5-point underdogs for a reason in this Week 1 showdown with Alabama. Castellanos is far from an efficient passer who struggles under pressure. In fact, Castellanos 29.5 PFF grade under pressure in 2024 put him among the 10th-worst quarterbacks in the FBS.

Look for Alabama’s menacing front seven to give Castellanos fits and lead the Crimson Tide to victory.
