SEC Conference play in Week 4 features a matchup between the No. 22 Auburn Tigers and the No. 11 Oklahoma Sooners.

Beyond the implications for both teams in the SEC race, this matchup carries extra intrigue with Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold making his return to Norman. Arnold spent the past two seasons with the Sooners before transferring, and now he’ll lead Auburn back into his old home stadium.

Can Arnold spark the Tigers to a statement road win, or will Brent Venables’ Sooners prove they’re the class of the conference? Let’s break down the Auburn vs Oklahoma betting lines and early predictions.

Auburn vs Oklahoma Betting Line 

Both teams enter this matchup at 3-0, but Oklahoma has fared better for gamblers at 2-1 against the spread (ATS), while Auburn sits at 1-2 ATS. 

Last week, both were in classic lookahead spots – laying big numbers against weaker opponents with this showdown on deck.

The Sooners took care of business, rolling Temple 42-3 as 23.5-point road favorites. Auburn, on the other hand, showed some cracks, failing to cover as 26.5-point home chalk in a 31-15 win over South Alabama. Evidently, the lookahead spot got to them. 

Oddsmakers opened Oklahoma -4.5 with a total of 49.5. Early action has pushed the line to -6.5, while the total has dipped to 48.5.

Auburn vs Oklahoma Early Predictions

On paper, the Sooners have the clear advantage. They sit first in defensive EPA per play and 10th in Net EPA per play, which factors in both offensive and defensive metrics.

Quarterback John Mateer has been the spark offensively, throwing for 944 yards with five touchdowns and three interceptions, while also rushing for 161 yards and four scores.  Oklahoma is letting Mateer fully control this offense, and he’ll get plenty more chances to do so against an Auburn defense that ranks 117th in EPA per pass.

The Tigers do have a quality run defense, but Mateer’s dual-threat ability, combined with running back Tory Blaylock – who’s averaging 5.4 yards per carry – will be difficult to contain for four quarters.

Flipping to Auburn, former Sooner Jackson Arnold has performed well through three games as a Tiger. He’s completing 69.6% of his passes for 501 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions. He’s also showcased his mobility, rushing 35 times for 192 yards and four scores. Starting running back Jeremiah Cobb has been efficient as well, averaging 6.8 yards per carry.

That efficiency may be tested, though, against an Oklahoma defense that ranks fifth in defensive rush success rate and allows just 2.9 yards per carry this season. If the Tigers can’t establish their ground game early, it’s going to be tough sledding for Arnold to keep pace with Mateer and the Sooners’ offense.

There’s been plenty of pressure on Oklahoma to deliver this season, and while Coach Brent Venables may have been on a warming seat, he’s answered the call so far. The Sooners notched an impressive 24-13 win over Michigan and followed it up with a dominant performance against Temple in what could’ve been a tricky spot. Those victories won’t mean much once Auburn arrives in Norman, but they do suggest this could be the team Venables has been building toward.

Auburn hasn’t faced a true test yet, and it’s hard to imagine them suddenly shocking a balanced Oklahoma squad on its home turf. The crowd will be fired up, eager to see their former quarterback stumble, and that energy should feed right into the Sooners’ edge. With the line moving in Oklahoma’s favor, anything under the key number of seven is worth a play on Venables’ side.
