Shockingly, in this world of the Transfer Portal, both teams bring back their starting quarterbacks from a year ago. The Wildcats return Avery Johnson, no, not the old point guard, to lead an offense that scored 30.8 points a game last year. Johnson also threw for 2,748.

Iowa State brings back quarterback Rocco Becht. This will be his third year as a starter. Last season, he threw for 3,505 and 25 touchdowns. Forget the Brock Purdy comparisons, though. He’s a different type of player.

I like Kansas State to cover. Iowa State had the No. 1-ranked pass offense in college football last year, giving up an incredible (especially in this day and age) 165.5 yards a game through the air, but they lost their best cover corner and defensive tackle.

K State is still a ground-oriented team. They’ll take advantage of the newcomers on the Cyclones’ defense.

K-State vs Iowa State Parlay Picks: Under 51.5

Two teams playing thousands of miles away, on a wet field, in front of a dead crowd (plenty of tickets are available, I checked), give me defense.

K State has one of the top linebackers in the country back in Austin Romaine. He had 96 tackles and a pair of sacks last season. Iowa State is also dealing with some newcomers on the offensive line and replacing its two best wide receivers, who were both NFL draft picks.

I know the Big 12 is typically an Over Bet. Teams in the Big 12 spread the ball and score, but both of these teams combined last season for 53 points total (ironically, both teams scored 30 and allowed 23).

Last year’s game was 29-21 for Iowa State. It’ll be close, but I’m taking the under.
