Maryland (3-0) hits the road for the first time this season when they visit Wisconsin (2-1) for Saturday’s Big Ten opener. The Terrapins are undefeated but haven’t played anybody notable, while the Badgers are licking their wounds after getting thumped 38-14 at Alabama.
The college football odds have moved significantly toward Wisconsin. What opened as a touchdown spread has ballooned to double digits as money pours in on the home team.
Kickoff is set for noon ET from Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, Wisconsin, with NBC handling the broadcast.
Maryland vs Wisconsin Odds
Wisconsin opened as 7-point favorites, but sharp action pushed the line to the key number of 10. The total dropped from 45.5 to 44.5 as bettors expect a defensive struggle.

Terps Defense Creating Chaos
Maryland’s defense has been the story early this season. They lead the nation with seven interceptions through three games and have added 10 sacks for good measure.
The problem is they’ve done it against Florida Atlantic, Northern Illinois, and Towson. This will be their first real test against Power Five competition.
Freshman quarterback Malik Washington has been solid, completing 62% of his passes for 773 yards with six touchdowns and just one pick. But he’s making his first road start in a hostile environment at Camp Randall.
The bigger issue is Maryland’s non-existent ground game. They’re averaging just 3.5 yards per carry (129th nationally) against weak defenses. That’s concerning against a Wisconsin defense allowing only 46.3 rushing yards per game.
Badgers Searching for Answers
Wisconsin’s offense was a disaster against Alabama. The offensive line couldn’t communicate, leading to blown assignments and constant pressure. Most concerning? The Badgers’ usually dominant ground game is averaging just 136 rushing yards so far this season.
The good news is QB Billy Edwards could start against his old team after missing the last two games with an injury. That’d be a huge upgrade for a Wisconsin offense that managed just 117 yards through the air against Alabama, with their only touchdown coming on special teams.
Head coach Luke Fickell is already feeling heat after going 14-14 since arriving in Madison. Another loss would crank up the pressure even more. This is a bounce-back spot, but will Edwards show some rust in his potential return?
The UW defense remains stout against the run, allowing only 46 yards per game. This should force Maryland into obvious passing situations, and that’s where Wisconsin can pin its ears back and get after Washington.
Maryland vs Wisconsin Prediction
- O/U Pick: Under 44.5 (-110 at Bet365)
- Spread Pick Maryland +10 (-110 at Bet365)

SPORTSBOOK
The under is 11-4 in Wisconsin’s last 15 home games. Both offenses have major questions heading into this one, and I’m not confident either team reaches the 20-point threshold.
Wisconsin has historically owned this series (4-0), but these aren’t your older brother’s Badgers. They’re 1-4 against the spread in their last five games for a reason.
Mike Locksley, meanwhile, is just 4-13 ATS as a road underdog during his Maryland tenure. That’s a brutal CFB betting trend that speaks to his inability to get his team on track away from home.
But getting double digits with a Terps’ defense this opportunistic feels like too much. Maryland won’t need to score much if they can force a couple of turnovers and flip field position. The Terps need to weather the first-quarter storm and keep it close.
The Camp Randall crowd will be a factor, especially if Wisconsin gets up early. But with a low total of 44.5, this game feels like a rock fight where neither team pulls away.
I’m predicting Wisconsin wins ugly in this Big Ten opener, something like 20-13. But Maryland covers the big number. Take the under first, then grab the Terps at +10.
