Early Alabama vs Georgia Pick

The #5 Georgia Bulldogs (3-0, 0-3 ATS) somehow kept their perfect record intact at Tennessee last week, overcoming a 14-point first-half deficit and surviving a 43-yard UT field-goal attempt in the dying seconds before prevailing 44-41 in overtime.

The Dawgs failed to cover a 3.5-point road favorites, dropping their ATS record to an ugly 0-3 to start the season. Now they stare down the same spread at home with a surging Alabama team coming to Athens.

After a season-opening 31-17 loss at Florida State (which is looking more and more respectable as the Noles obliterate all comers), #14 Alabama (2-1, 2-1 ATS) has recorded impressive wins over UL Monroe (73-0) and Wisconsin (38-14). Junior QB Ty Simpson was electric against the Badgers, throwing for 382 yards on 82% passing with four touchdowns and no turnovers. Alabama’s lack of a running game continues to be a concern. Leading rusher Kevin Riley has just 120 yards through three games.

The Georgia defense looked vulnerable last week, though, especially through the air, giving up 371 yards and four touchdowns to Joey Aguilar. I expect this spread to come down to a field goal or under, and I’m targeting Alabama +3.5 (-110) early in the week.
