- Big Noon Kickoff comes to Northwestern for the first time Sept. 13 when the Wildcats host No. 4 Oregon.
- The Ducks have scored 128 points in their first two games and are a heavy favorite.
- Check out my full preview, including a look at the point spread, best betting odds and prediction for Oregon vs Northwestern.
No. 4 Oregon (2-0; 2-0 ATS) brings its high-flying offense into suburban Chicago to take on Northwestern (1-1; 1-1 ATS) at Martin Stadium at noon ET on Fox. That’s 9 a.m. PT for you Oregon fans.
The Ducks have been great no matter what time they’ve taken the field this season and are close to a four-touchdown favorite over Northwestern. It’s the school’s first meeting since 1974.
Will the Wildcats just be another bump in the road for the defending Big 10 champs? I break down the odds, spread and have your Oregon vs Northwestern prediction.
Oregon vs Northwestern Odds
This is the Big 10 opener for both teams. Remember, Ohio State won the natty, but Oregon won the Big Ten (thank you Michigan) last season. Caesars and BetMGM have this as a 28-point spread, but FanDuel and DraftKings have it at 27.5. How important is that half point? That’s up to you. Remember, Oregon likes to go for two. They were 4-7 on two-point attempts last year. This score could get weird.
If you’re dreaming big, the best value on a Northwestern moneyline is FanDuel at +2400.

Oddsmakers have the total at 48.5, which I think is low. Oregon might score more than that by themselves.
The favorite has covered the spread in Oregon’s last five games. Oregon’s last five games have all gone over. Eight of Northwestern’s last 12 games have gone over. The Ducks have won their last 33 games against non-ranked teams.
Oregon vs Northwestern Spread
Northwestern was 4-8 last season, but they did hang with the big boys in the Big 10. They lost to Ohio State by 24, lost to Wisconsin by 20 and lost to Iowa by 26. They did get blown out by Michigan 50-6.
We’re looking at that fact when we consider the 28-point spread. This season the Wildcats lost on the road to Tulane, a strong Group of 5 team, by 20, then clobbered Western Illinois 42-7.
Wildcats QB Preston Stone, a transfer from SMU, has thrown four picks. Northwestern also lost maybe its best offensive player in the win over West Illinois when running back Cam Porter got hurt. He’s out for the year.
Oregon has racked up the third most points in FBS, and rank in the top 10 in both scoring offense and scoring defense.
I think you have to take Oregon and give the points here.
Oregon vs Northwestern Prediction
- Oregon -28 (-110 at Caesars)
- Over 48.5 (-110 at Caesars)
Oregon should easily overcome the early start and the Wildcats. Ducks QB Dante Moore, a UCLA transfer, has already thrown for 479 yards and six scores. He’s one of four Oregon QBs this season to throw a pass – that tells you how lopsided things have been for the Ducks.
Ducks running back Noah Whitington has run for a team-high 159 yards, and watch for Oregon LB Matayo Uiagalelei to have a big game. He’s the little brother of the former Clemson QB.
This is just another tune-up for Oregon. They have better athletes than Northwestern. It’s that simple.
