This weekend’s college football slate is short on ranked teams facing off against one another. In fact, #15 Michigan vs #18 Oklahoma is the only contest featuring two top-25 programs, which makes it a fitting place to start my Week 2 college football player props card.

The slate’s marquee matchup pits Wolverines freshman QB Bryce Underwood against Sooners junior pivot John Mateer, and there’s a case to be made that the passing yards prop for both quarterbacks is too high. I’m going to avoid pulling the trigger on Mateer’s 241.5 yard prop for now, choosing to bet under 191.5 passing yards for Underwood instead.

Week 2 College Football Player Prop: Bryce Underwood Passing Yards

Both Michigan and Oklahoma are legitimate contenders in the college football playoff odds, but the Wolverines’ case is made more for their defensive prowess and rushing attack. Underwood played mistake-free football in his collegiate debut last week, but that was at home versus a far less talented New Mexico program.

Now, as 5.5-point underdogs, Underwood and Michigan have to go into a hostile Norman environment to face one of college football’s Blue Bloods. That kind of pressure is a lot to put on a freshman, so we should expect a run-heavy, conservative game play.

The Wolverines love nothing more than to establish the run, and RB Justice Haynes is coming off a 3 TD performance where he averaged 6 yards per carry.

Oklahoma’s defensive front, meanwhile, is a strength and will apply max pressure when Underwood does drop back to throw. The Sooners allowed only 34 passing yards and seven first downs last week to Illinois State, limiting the opposition to 3.3 yards per play.

Saturday CFB Player Prop: Austin Simmons Passing Yards

My next college football player prop best bet is over 260.5 passing yards for Ole Miss QB Austin Simmons. The third-year sophomore went for 341 passing yards last week, and now faces a Kentucky program that is a huge pass-funnel defense.

The Wildcats coughed up 270 passing yards to Toledo last week, but surrendered only 59 rushing yards on 29 attempts. They recorded six tackles for loss in run defense, but allowed the Rockets to average 12 yards per reception.

That’s music to Simmons’ ears, who averaged 11 yards per attempt in his season debut. This may be Simmons’ first full year as the Rebels starter, but he’s flashed against SEC defenses in the past.

Who could forget last year when he came off the bench to help Ole Miss upset #3 Georgia, going 5-for-6, for 64 yards versus one of the best defenses in the country.
