The Friday night lights shine on Washington tonight, so pour yourself an extra cup of coffee to stay awake for a Big 10 showdown. Rutgers (3-2, 0-2 Big Ten) and the Huskies (4-1, 1-1 Big Ten) will kickoff at 9 pm ET on FS1, with online sportsbooks expecting a high-scoring affair per the latest college football odds.
Rutgers vs Washington Prediction
This game opened with a 59.5-point total, and that number can still be found at ESPN BET. That’s the sportsbooks you want to visit if you like the over, as the rest of the industry has settled on a 60.5 point over/under.
Rutgers enters play with a perfect 5-0 record to the over, thanks to a combination of efficient offense and miserable defense. Washington, meanwhile, has a pretty potent offense of its own, and their inability to get their defense off the field on 3rd down should translate into plenty of points for the Scarlet Knights.
Dating back to last November, Rutgers has averaged 34 points per game versus FBS foes. Quarterback Athan Kaliakmanis leads a Scarlet Knights passing attack that ranks top-35 in completion percentage, yards per pass and passing yards per game, and has a pair of receivers (KJ Duff and Ian Strong) on pace for 1,000-yard seasons.
The Huskies defense is exploitable, even more so now due to injuries. That unit is down its top corner (Tacario Davis) and its best EDGE (Zach Durfee), which is a major blow to a defense that ranks 111th in late down success rate and bottom-10 in the country in late down EPA allowed per play.
On the other side of the ball, the ceiling is sky-high for QB Desmond Williams and the entire Huskies offense. Washington averages 32 points per game, and the Scarlet Knights’ defense is exploitable through the air and on the ground.
Rutgers Defensive Stats
With both teams set up offensively for success, and each defense struggling to get stops, I’m making over 59.5 my Rutgers vs Washington prediction tonight.
While I love the over, if forced to pick a side, Washington should cover the 10.5-point spread at home. The Huskies’ superior offensive firepower, home-field advantage, and QB Desmond Williams’ ability to exploit Rutgers’ 126th-ranked yards-per-play defense gives them enough edge to win this one comfortably. Expect Washington to pull away in the second half.

Rutgers vs Washington Picks
- Desmond Williams 250+ passing yards and 2+ Passing TD SGP (+130)
Moving over to the college football player props market, where I’m all in on Williams tonight. I’ve put together a +130 same-game parlay, banking on him throwing for 250 yards and 2 TD. That’s a stat line he’s produced in two of his past three outings, with the exception coming against Ohio State, who boast the best defense in the nation and are the CFP odds favorites.
The Scarlet Knights defense doesn’t resemble the Buckeyes’ in any facet, as they rank 118th in points allowed per drive, and 126th in yards per play.
Rutgers vs Washington Odds
As for the rest of the Rutgers vs Washington odds, the Huskies are 10.5-point favorites and -410 on the moneyline. The 10.5-point spread seems a little rich, given the Scarlet Knights are coming off a bye week, while Washington had to travel back across country after last week’s game in Maryland. Rutgers’ rest advantage could keep this closer than expected, making the Scarlet Knights +10.5 an intriguing live-dog option.
As for the 59.5-point total, this number feels spot-on given both offenses’ efficiency and both defenses’ struggles. With Rutgers posting a perfect 5-0 record to the over and Washington averaging 32 points per game against defenses far better than what they’ll face tonight, the over is the play. Both teams rank in the top half of college football in scoring, and neither defense has shown the ability to generate consistent stops.

Per the college football public betting trends, Rutgers is 8-0-1 against the spread after a bye under Greg Schiano, and 36-22-3 ATS as a road underdog during Schiano’s tenure.
