  • Stanford faces Hawaii Saturday night in the final contest on the Week 0 slate
  • The Cardinal ranked 122nd in scoring defense and 129th vs the pass last season

The final game on tonight’s Week 0 college football slate pits Stanford against Hawaii. The Cardinal featured one of the worst defenses in the nation last season, and not nearly enough has been done to fix their litany of issues.

I’m expecting their defensive woes to carry over against the Rainbow Warriors in my Stanford vs Hawaii college football player props, especially through the air.

Sam Roush (STAN)35.5 (Ov -114 / Un -114)14.5 (Ov -115 / Un -115)

Rainbow Warriors new QB Micah Alejado carries a slate-high 287.5 yard passing prop, and is the only QB in Week 0 with a 2.5 passing TDs prop. Each of his top-two receivers Pofele Ashlock and Nick Cenacle carry receiving yards props north of 63, a full 20 yards more than any Cardinal wideout.

On the ground, Stanford’s Micah Ford has a rushing prop twice as high as any Hawaii back, but that’s only because the Rainbow Warriors are not in the business of establishing the run.

Stanford vs Hawaii Prop Pick #1: Pofele Ashlock Over 64.5 Receiving Yards

If we know one thing about Hawaii, it’s that throwing the ball relentlessly is a staple of Timmy Chang’s run-and-shoot offense. We don’t have much tape on Alejado, but in his lone start he wasn’t shy about chucking the ball all over the field. Alejado threw the ball 57 times in the season finale versus New Mexico last season, for 469 yards and 5 TD.

Pofele Ashlock led the team that night with 8 catches, and he’s the most polished receiver on the team. Ashlock has 144 receptions in two seasons at Hawaii, and big things are expected of him in his junior year. The matchup is certainly working in his favor, as the Cardinal boasted one of the worst pass defenses in college football in 2024.

Stanford Cardinal 2024 Pass Defense

StatTotal
Opponent Completion %65.9%
Pass Yds Allowed / Game280.6
Pass TD Allowed / Game2.6

The strength of the Stanford defense lies in its front, but the back end remains exceptionally weak. Last season they coughed up over 287.5 passing yards per game, yielding a 66% completion rate along the way. I expect the Rainbow Warriors passing attack to eviscerate the Cardinal back end, and I’m not alone.

Hawaii has gone from a 2.5-point underdog to 2.5-point favorite since opening betting lines were released.

  • Pofele Ashlock Over 64.5 Receiving Yards (-114 at FanDuel)

Stanford vs Hawaii Prop Pick #2: Micah Ford Under 53.5 Rushing Yards

On the other side of the ball, the Rainbow Warriors are very strong against the run. They finished top-30 in defensive line yards last season, and return their top five tacklers.

That spells trouble for Stanford’s Micah Ford, who lacks explosiveness. Ford averaged only 2.7 yards per carry as a freshman, and forced just 10 missed tackles on 76 attempts. To make matters worse, Stanford is also breaking in a brand new center. I expect their run game to be stuck in neutral tonight.

  • Micah Ford Under 55.5 Rushing Yards (-115 at Bet365)

Stanford vs Hawaii Parlay Picks

Who doesn’t love a same-game parlay? The answer is no one. I’m using my first two picks from above, along with an anytime TD for Hawaii’s Nick Cenacle, to create a +495 Stanford vs Hawaii same-game parlay.

Stanford vs Hawaii Parlay Analysis

Not only did Stanford bleed yards to opposing passing games, but they also coughed up nearly 3 touchdowns through the air per game last year.

Given the Rainbow Warriors’ propensity to throw the ball, and Alejado’s touchdown projection, I expect multiple passing scores tonight. Ashlock is a great bet to find the end zone, but so is Cenacle at a more favorable price.

Cenacle tied for the team-lead in receiving touchdowns last season, and went 7/93/1 in the season finale with Alejado under center.

  • Stanford vs Hawaii Parlay: Ashlock Over 64.5 Receiving Yards, Ford Under 55.5 Rushing Yards, Cenacle Anytime TD (+495)
