The books contend that the Rebels should advance to the quarterfinals for a date with SEC stalwart Georgia. That would be quite a clash and cause some shifts in the College Football odds.

My Tulane vs Ole Miss prediction has those Rebels getting the job done against the spread. This is a team that can pound the ball all day and night with Kewan Lacy. He had 258 carries, which led the SEC and 20 rushing touchdowns. Quarterback Trinidad Chambliss is solid and added almost 500 yards running. Chambliss accounted for a total of 24 touchdowns.

The Rebels took care of business after their loss to Georgia, winning five straight games. It was their emphatic 38-19 win over Mississippi State that may have been as impressive as their bounce-back win over Oklahoma (post Bulldogs loss).

Naturally, there is one minor detail. Pete Golding takes over for Lane Kiffin, who left for LSU. Charlie Weis Jr. will call the offensive plays until Ole Miss is eliminated. After that, he will leave for LSU.

By the way, the game total already inched up one point from the opening to 56.5. That is okay. Ole Miss knows Tulane has a solid offense, but only averaged 29.1 points in 2025. The Rebels can keep the score down in this tilt.

Early Tulane vs Ole Miss Preview

Tulane and Ole Miss did meet before in Mississippi. Yes, that game went to the Rebels, 45-10. What did Tulane learn from that first meeting? One thing they’d better figure out quickly is how to slow down Chambliss and Lacy. The quarterback threw for over 300 yards and a couple scores. Lacy pounded his way for 68 yards.

By the way, Chambliss also rushed for 112 yards on just 14 carries. That RPO (Run-Pass option) created havoc for Tulane’s Front Seven all game long.

Now, Tulane did stick to the run well enough and managed 178 yards on the ground. The problem was that Jake Retzlaff was harassed throughout the contest and did not finish the game. Retzlaff’s arm is something Ole Miss should watch for. However, his legs are just as dangerous. Retzlaff averaged 5.2 yards per scramble in 2025 and 16 touchdowns to go with the 14 via the air.

This is a game with more storyline than anything else. Ole Miss looks ready to punch their ticket for a rematch with Georgia. The Green Wave will keep this closer. Do not count on a fourth-quarter deluge quite like the one in September.
