College Football Upset Predictions Week 6 – CFB Underdog Picks Today

Last week, I knew it wasn’t a good week for upsets, and I only came up with one out of four, but I feel much better about these games.

College football, really, all sports can be about confidence, and I’m looking at a couple of teams whose confidence has to be shaken after bad losses last week. Those things do carry over, and while I’m stopping short of picking anything straight up, I love the big points in some spots.

Let’s dig into my expert college football underdog picks today.

College Football Upset Predictions Today (Oct. 4)

CFB Upset Predictions: Kentucky +19.5 vs Georgia

You might be able to find another point or 1.5-points for the Wildcats if you look around, and I think it’s a lot of points. Georgia has won 15 in a row in the series, but remember, trailed Kentucky in the fourth quarter last year before escaping with a 13-12 win.

Georgia is coming off a bad loss to Alabama, where they made costly mistakes down the stretch, and it’s 0-3-1 against the spread this season. These are all red flags to me.

Kentucky has won five of the last six meetings against Georgia against the spread, and Georgia has failed the cover the spread in its last 10 games against non-ranked teams.

CFB Upset Predictions: Wake Forest +5 vs Virginia Tech

New Virginia Tech coach Philip Montgomery has won two in a row since taking over, but we all know that interim coaches typically give an initial burst and then things fall apart. To be blunt, it’s because players know that the interim guy really doesn’t have much power.

Wake Forest is coming off a one-point loss to Georgia Tech in OT. They blew a 17-point lead in that one, but Demon Deacons QB Robby Ashford is legit. He had Wake in position to win at the end.

The Hokies are 2-8 against the spread in their last 10 games. If Wake Forest can get up on Virginia Tech early, I think they cruise.

CFB Upset Predictions: UCLA +25 vs Penn State

I’ll admit right away this is a long shot, but I just wonder if the bloom is off the Penn State rose and Coach James Franklin.

We all saw what happened last Saturday night in Happy Valley against Oregon. Penn State was there. Penn State was ready, and then they just made a game-ending mistake against a good team. Cue the usual cries for Franklin’s head and his stats against Top 20 opponents. Of course, he defends it, but man, you are what your record says.

The thing is, UCLA is a disaster. They fired their coach and are under interim coach Jim Skipper. They played a little better last week in a loss to Northwestern.

Penn State has lost its last five games ATS. UCLA is 4-6 against the spread in its last 10. Don’t forget about the cross-country travel for Penn State. This one could be close going into the second half.

CFB Upset Predictions: Houston +10.5 vs Texas Tech

I love this upset pick. Both teams are 4-0 straight up, both teams are 3-1 against the spread. Houston is 4-0 for the first time since 2016. Texas Tech had last week off after beating up on Utah.

Houston hasn’t beat Texas Tech since 2009, but incredibly, has covered the spread the last six times they have played. This is the biggest spread on this game in over 15 years.

Houston brought in QB Conner Weigman from Texas A&M and top WR Tanner Koziol from Ball State. Coach Willie Fritz had a lot of success down at Tulane and before that at the FCS level. A Houston home crowd, night game, old Southwest Conference rivals. This one checks a lot of my upset boxes.
