  • Let’s roll with some upset picks against the spread for Week 8 in college football.
  • I’ve got two teams from the SEC on Upset Alert, and are we sure that Florida State should be getting 17 points against anyone?
  • Stay here to read all my Week 8 college football upset picks and the best underdog bets today.

We’ve seen lots of coaching drama in college football the last few weeks, capped by the firing of Penn State coach James Franklin. When a coach is on the way out, or in trouble, players know it, and you should bet accordingly.

That’s one of my major guidelines coming into Week 8. I’ve done well with my upset picks this season, but now I am going back to basics: who has a coach in trouble, who has an emotional edge?

Check out my college football upset predictions for Week 8.

Mississippi State +10 at Florida

The Bulldogs are 4-2, 8-2 against the spread in their 10 games and getting 10 points on the road in Gainesville.

After upsetting Texas, Florida looked lost again in College Station against Texas A&M. There was a social media clip of Gators QB DJ Lagway maybe cursing out his coaches. If its that bad, that’s bad.

Mississippi State was 4-0 in non-conference play. They hung with Tennessee before losing in OT and got whipped by Texas A&M. State is 0-14 in its last 14 SEC games. I just think Florida is still in turmoil. I like Mississippi State in this one.

Texas A&M at Arkansas +7.5

This will be the first time the Razorback crowd gets to cheer for interim coach Bobby Petrino in person. Petrino, you know, has some baggage, but he’s loved in Arkansas.

A&M has one of the most talented offenses in the nation. They’ll slice through the Hogs’ defense (which is bad) easily, but Arkansas can score too. The Hogs have averaged 36.3 points a game.

This game has been played in Dallas for the last few years. Arkansas will have a rabid crowd working for them, even though the Hogs are 2-12 in their last 14 at Razorback Stadium. Hey, that’s why we call them upsets.

Utah at BYU +3.5

It’s the Holy War, the biggest game of the college football weekend. BYU is No. 15 in the nation and 6-0, 4-2 against the spread. Utah is 5-1 and ranked No. 23.

How’s this stat? The No. 23 team in the AP poll has won 10 in a row.

BYU has covered the spread in its last six games against ranked teams. They’re getting 3.5 points at home? Sign me up. BYU freshman quarterback Bear Bachmeier wears No. 47 because he’s a converted linebacker. He’s a bull. I’m bullish on BYU Saturday night.

Florida State at Stanford +17.5

Florida State was 3-0, but had that OT loss to Virginia, and everything has gone south since then. There’s starting to be some noise about Seminoles coach Mike Norvell. The Miami game wasn’t close as the score showed, and Florida State was 10-point favorites last week and lost to Pitt.

Stanford, though, they aren’t great. They have failed to cover the spread in their last five October games, and QB Ben Gulbranson is slow and methodical.

But I love Stanford at home against a team that has lost three in a row, and is making the cross-country road trip and maybe not as supportive of their coach. The late start (10:30 ET) helps Stanfor,d too. I am going to stay up for this one.
