UTEP (1-2 SU, 3-4 ATS) takes on Kennesaw State (5-2 SU, 5-2 ATS) in Tuesday Week 10 college football action. The Miners are looking to keep their heads above water after losing four of their last five games, while the Owls aim to keep their five-game winning streak rolling. Don’t miss this Conference USA matchup over on ESPN U with kickoff set for 8pm ET.
Lock in my UTEP vs Kennesaw State prediction, with the line and betting picks, below.
UTEP vs Kennesaw State Prediction
UTEP is thoroughly overmatched in this one. While the Miners defense is capable of holding their own, Scotty Walden’s offense is one of the worst in the country. UTEP ranks 131st in offensive EPA per play, while averaging just 4.5 total yards per play. The Miners also convert on only 30% of third downs.
Kennesaw State have covered four straight games, and the Owls seem to be getting better with each passing week. UTEP saw success against a brutal Sam Houston State defense last week, but I don’t expect that to continue against a Kennesaw State defense allowing just 5.6 yards per play and 22 points per game. The Miners can’t keep pace with the Owls.

UTEP Betting Trends
UTEP bounced back with a 35-17 win over Sam Houston last week, but are just 1-2 in Conference USA play. The Miners have struggled offensively with quarterback Malachi Nelson benched for poor play. The former four-star USC recruit completed just over 50% of passes and threw more interceptions than touchdowns before being benched for junior pivot Skyler Locklear. Locklear is no savior, but he got the job done with 236 yards and two scores against Sam Houston.
The Miners truly shine on the defensive end, ranking 31st in EPA against the pass, and an impressive 10th against the rush. UTEP is also holding opposing offenses to just a 29% success rate on third downs, good for second in the country. However, the Miners defense can’t do it all on their own, as the squad ranks 130th in turnover margin per game.
UTEP enters this one with a six day rest advantage, but the Miners are just 2-9 SU in their last 11 road games. On top of that, UTEP is 4-9 SU in their last 13 against Conference USA opposition.
Kennesaw State Betting Trends
Since dropping a season opening contest to Wake Forest, and falling to Indiana the week after, the Owls are playing fantastic football. Kennesaw State have ripped off five wins on the jump, while covering the spread in four of those contests. The Owls quarterbacking tandem of Amari Odum and Dexter Williams continues to perplex opponents. Plus, the Kennessaw State rushing attack has been excellent, averaging over four yards per carry and 156 yards per game, while keeping their quarterbacks ahead of the chains.
Kennesaw State’s defense has been just as impressive, allowing only 5.6 yards per play. While they give up a ton of yards (420 per game), the Owls tighten things up in the red zone. Their bend but don’t break defensive philosophy has led to opponents scoring just 22.7 points per game, as the Owls allow a touchdown on just 76% of red zone trips, good for 15th in the country. If the UTEP offense can’t score touchdowns, they hold little hope of pulling off the upset.
The betting trends are all over the Owls in this one, as Kennesaw State have covered in six of their last seven games at home, and are 5-1 ATS in their last six against Conference USA opponents.
