- College football kicks off Saturday with five Week 0 games, including a neutral-site showdown in Dublin
- Hawaii has become the biggest line mover, flipping from 2.5-point dogs to 2.5-point favorites against Stanford
- Sharp money has pounded the Sam Houston/Western Kentucky total, while the public is all over Kansas laying double digits
The wait is finally over. After eight long months, college football returns Saturday with a five-game Week 0 slate that features interesting matchups and has seen notable betting movement across the board.
The headline game sends No. 17 Kansas State and No. 22 Iowa State to Dublin for an early Big 12 battle that could shake up the conference race. But the biggest story from a betting standpoint? That Stanford-Hawaii line has done a complete 180 since opening.

Hawaii vs Stanford Odds Shift
The wildest college football line move of the week belongs to the nightcap in Honolulu. Stanford opened as 2.5-point road favorites back in June, but the Cardinal are now catching 2.5 points – a full five-point swing that has Hawaii backers feeling good.
This move tells the story of Stanford’s messy offseason. The Cardinal canned head coach Troy Taylor in March, then brought in former NFL coach Frank Reich as the interim guy. Reich’s one-year deal adds a ton of uncertainty to a program that’s won just 12 games since 2021. That ties them with Temple for third-worst in all of college football.
Stanford’s Recent Struggles
Here’s where it gets interesting. According to ESPN BET, nearly 80% of the money has come in on Hawaii despite less than half the tickets backing the Rainbow Warriors. That’s sharp money talking right there.
Hawaii has also covered seven straight home games against FBS teams – the longest active streak in college football. Stanford, meanwhile, is a brutal 12-19 ATS as betting underdogs since 2021.
The total has also dropped from 55.5 to 50.5, with 90.1% of the money on the under. Stanford’s defense has allowed 400-plus yards per game for eight straight seasons, but Hawaii averaged just 19.7 points through its first seven games last year. Something’s got to give.
K-State vs Iowa State Odds Hold Steady
The big game between Iowa State and Kansas State in Dublin hasn’t moved much despite being the weekend’s marquee matchup. K-State opened -3.5 and sits at -3, with about 59% of the action backing the Wildcats.
While Kansas State outgained opponents by 83.4 yards per game last season and returns more production, I’m backing Iowa State plus the points. The Cyclones have owned this rivalry recently (4-1 straight up, 5-0 ATS last five meetings) and return an experienced quarterback who knows how to win close games.
Wildcats vs Cyclones H2H Results
This matchup typically comes down to the wire. With nine Big 12 teams rated within a touchdown of each other entering 2025, every point matters. Iowa State was a perfect 2-0 ATS as an underdog last season, while Kansas State went just 4-8 ATS when favored. In what should be another nail-biter, take the points.
The total has crept from 49.5 to 51.5, with 72.4% of bets and 74.3% of handle on the over. Both teams prefer a slower pace, though, as these aren’t your typical Big 12 track meets anymore.
Public Backing Power Conference Favorites
UNLV’s spread against Idaho State has jumped from -23 to -30.5, one of the week’s biggest moves. Dan Mullen’s arrival has created huge buzz in Vegas, and the Rebels are 9-0 ATS in August and September since 2023. They’ve also beaten their last three FCS opponents by 58, 30 and 31 points.
Kansas has drawn heavy public backing against Fresno State, with 76.7% of bets and 86.7% of handle on the Jayhawks at -14. The public loves Kansas because the Bulldogs lost 70% of their offensive production and eight defensive starters from last season. First-year coach Matt Entz faces a huge rebuilding project.
But I’m taking Fresno State plus the points. Lance Leipold’s teams play at a snail’s pace – Kansas averaged 28.8 seconds per play last year (117th nationally). The under is 5-1 in the Jayhawks’ last six non-conference games. With Fresno State’s depleted roster struggling to move the ball, this game could be lower-scoring and tighter than most expect.
Sharp Action Hits Sam Houston-Western Kentucky Line
Western Kentucky has moved from -7 to -10 against Sam Houston, but the real story is the total. With O/U line movement from 61.5 to 60.5, sharp bettors have taken a clear position.
Only 19.7% of bets are on the under, yet it’s drawn 63.7% of the money – a massive sharp versus square split. The public sees new Bearkats coach Phil Longo, who brings an up-tempo system after Sam Houston’s conservative approach under K.C. Keeler last year. Longo wants to throw the ball and push the pace.
Sam Houston vs WKU Public Betting
If you’re looking to follow the sharps, take the Under 60.5 for WKU vs Sam Houston. The line moving down with that many tickets on the over is a clear indicator of where the pros are putting their cash.
In terms of spread betting, Western Kentucky returns just one offensive starter and two on defense from last year’s 8-6 team. The Hilltoppers went 1-6 ATS in their final seven games when bettors backed them heavily. This feels like more of the same.
