Tottenham (+400)Â vs. Chelsea (-125) (Draw +275)
Chelsea will try to start 2015 on the right foot when they visit Tottenham on New Year’s Day at White Hart Lane (12:30 p.m. Eastern).
Chelsea leads Tottenham in the head-to-head series with 56 wins and 43 losses (plus 34 draws). In the moneyline, the Blues are the heavy favorites to win, sitting at -125. On the other side, the Spurs are +400, and the draw will pay +275.
In the standings, the Blues are on top of the Premier League with 46 points (W14, D4, L1), three points clear of second-place Man City and a full ten points up on third-place Man United.
Meanwhile, the Spurs are seventh in the league with 31 points (W9, D4, L6), but are just two points shy of fourth.
Both teams got a draw in their last fixture; Chelsea tied Southampton (1-1) while Tottenham drew Manchester United (0-0). After drawing against the red-hot Red Devils, Spurs head coach Mauricio Pochettino was satisfied with the result.
“It’s a good point. We produced a good performance. Our fitness levels are very good. We have a lot of games ahead and the next one [against Chelsea on Thursday] is another tough one,” said the manager.
Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho gave Southampton – one of the surprise teams of the EPL this season – full credit for holding the Blues to a rare draw.
“I can believe Southampton defended with everything they have. [They played] with organisation, spirit and solidarity of players and the effort they fought to get the point,” Mourinho told reporters .
Surprisingly, the Spurs have a positive record in their last eight meetings against the Blues (W3, D4, L1). That said, don’t bet against the Blues come Thursday.
