Hoechlin Leads The Pack
Tyler Hoechlin has become a favorite in this category, and for good reason. Last fall, Hoechlin was already on the shortlist of potential hopefuls, and he’s now moved to the top of the list.

Audiences have already familiarized themselves in seeing Hoechlin as Superman in the TV series Supergirl. Having him appear as the character on the big screen would give the DC Universe an opportunity to span that connection from television to film.
It’s been speculated for a while now that DC is going to attempt to bridge the gap in their universe between the television and film components. With such major TV hits as Arrow, The Flash, and Supergirl already finding success with audiences, having Hoechlin carry over his appearance as Superman to the big screen makes sense.
It’s A Bird, It’s A Plane…
While Hoechlin has the familiarity in the role through television, he isn’t the only one in consideration.
Michael B. Jordan, who co-starred in competitor Marvel’s Black Panther, hasn’t filled the shoes of a leading hero quite yet, and many comic book fans think Jordan would make a fantastic Superman.

It’s easy to see Jordan in the role of Superman. He’d be the first non-white actor to fill the role, breaking down another barrier in his young career.
When looking at the prior superman, Henry Cavill, it’s easy to picture Armie Hammer as his replacement if the studio decides to go for a similar vibe. Cavill and Hammer fit similar bills on the big screen.
But that’s just it– he is too similar. Traditionally, when trading one hero actor out for another, Hollywood usually likes to be drastic to show some variety. This is another reason Hoechlin makes so much sense for the role. He’s a world apart from Cavill.
But like any good Hollywood race, no shortlist would be complete with a few random names in the mix. Would it be fun to see Ryan Gosling or Idris Elba in the role? Absolutely. But many of the options here almost seem just for show.
Ultimately, it’s most likely that Tyler Hoechlin is going to show up as Superman in the next DC Comics film.
Pick: Tyler Hoechlin (+125)
