WWE NXT unfortunately canceled their TakeOver event in Tampa over WrestleMania weekend two months ago due to COVID-19, forcing the company to change plans. However, the black-and-gold brand will return stronger than ever with a loaded lineup this Sunday in the form of TakeOver: In Your House.

From a Back Lot Brawl main event to a star-studded Triple Threat match for the NXT Women’s Championship, this TakeOver top to bottom promises to be can’t-miss. Better yet, most of the matches feel genuinely unpredictable and should be spectacular from an in-ring standpoint.

Ahead of the anticipated event, here are the odds that matter most.

Yim, Blackheart & Nox vs. LeRae, Kai & Gonzalez

NXT’s women’s division is arguably as hot as it’s ever been and this six-woman tag team match that was just added to the card this past week should serve as a showcase for the tremendous talent involved.

Tegan Nox has had her established issues with Dakota Kai for over six months, and at TakeOver: Portland, Gonzalez came to Kai’s aid to help her beat Nox. Blackheart, Yim and LeRae entered the fray soon after and now all of them are jockeying for a shot at the NXT Women’s Championship.

With nothing on the line, it virtually doesn’t matter who wins this matchup, but the babyfaces giving the heels their comeuppance as the odds suggest seems to be the best case scenario.

Priest vs Balor

Finn Balor’s return run in NXT over the past eight months has been nothing short of stellar and has given fans several fresh and fun matches. While his pursuit of the NXT UK Championship is put on hold due to the current circumstances, he’ll instead set his sights on besting up-and-comer Damian Priest at TakeOver.

Priest’s rookie year in NXT has been decent, but he has yet to score the one defining victory. According to the odds, he’ll get his just due on this show by beating Balor, but that is far from a guarantee. It’s a close call because of how both guys could realistically reign supreme.

Priest is slightly favored at -160 to Balor’s +120, but seeing as how Balor never fails to deliver on the grand stage of TakeOver and hasn’t lost on such a show in almost four years, he might be the better bet here.

Lee vs Gargano (NXT North American Championship)

Keith Lee has been a fighting NXT North American champion since January, but the time has come for him to move on to bigger and better things. He just so happens to be defending his coveted championship at TakeOver: In Your House against Johnny Gargano, who is a former NXT North American titleholder in his own right and is fresh off a huge win over Tommaso Ciampa back in April.

In other words, a Gargano title win here is a more compelling outcome than if Lee retained, and the odds reflect that. Johnny Wrestling can steal the victory with help from his wife Candice LeRae, which would pave the way for Lee to move into NXT Championship contention.

Kross vs Ciampa

Karrion Kross’ NXT arrival had been built up for so long via vignettes that it was unknown whether he’d able to live up to the lofty hype. Sure enough, he debuted with a bang and immediately put NXT veteran Tommaso Ciampa on notice by ambushing him backstage.

Ciampa is the perfect opponent for Kross right out of the gate because of how the former NXT champion is a top-tier talent on the brand. He can and already has benefited a ton from working with him, but nothing of what he’s accomplished up to this point will matter if he can’t walk the walk when it matters most at TakeOver.

Fans recognize this is a must-win situation for Kross, which is why he’s favored -280 to Ciampa’s +180. A decisive victory for Kross is the only way this thing can end.

Flair vs Shirai vs Ripley (NXT Women’s Championship)

There can be no denying that the NXT Women’s Championship picture has been worse off with Charlotte Flair as champion. Some of the matches she’s had have been decent, including her barn burner of a bout with Rhea Ripely at WrestleMania 36, but so far no one has benefited from her reign of terror and thus the time has come for her to be beaten.

YouTube video

Io Shirai is not only the odds-on favorite to walk away with the title but she’s also the most compelling choice of the three. She’s never before held the prestigious prize and has been doing phenomenal work worthy of a title run.

Flair and Ripley can always settle their score someplace else, but the championship doesn’t have to be at stake. Instead, Shirai should be allowed to dominate the division for a bit before inevitably being called up to the main roster.

Cole vs Dream (NXT Championship Back Lot Brawl)

It’s been decades since fans last saw a Back Lot Brawl in WWE, but it’s the perfect stipulation for a TakeOver main event of this caliber. Velveteen Dream has been chasing Adam Cole and his NXT Championship for many months, and although he originally fell short of capturing the gold in early May on NXT TV, it feels like TakeOver: In Your House will be the night he finally takes the title and snaps Cole’s historic reign.

YouTube video

All signs point to Dream emerging as the new NXT champion, if only because it makes the most sense storyline-wise and Cole has defeated almost everyone else on the roster. Then again, the odds favoring a successful title defense for Cole means nothing is out of the question, not to mention that Cole holding onto the gold for a little bit longer would be better than Dream being crowned champion a time when he has never felt colder as an act.
