  • ESEA Season 31 Global Challenge begins July 13
  • Vitality a lock for another title?
  • Value picks to come out on to in Dallas

The ESEA Season 31 Global Challenge is set to take place July 13-14 in Dallas, and will see eight teams competing to take home the first place prize of $25,000. Though there will be a few teams in attendance that are pretty highly rated on the world scene, the majority of the teams that will be playing in Texas aren’t quite on that upper tier in CSGO.

Vitality head in as the favorite to come out on top which shouldn’t really be a surprise. They are currently the third ranked team on HLTV and recently found success on the big stage at the ECS Season 7 Finals. Is there a possibility of an upset in Dallas? Or are the French a lock to win yet another title in 2019?

Viva La France

Since Vitality formed they’ve been on a steady climb upwards in the world of CSGO, winning some smaller tier events over the past year and placing reasonably high at some premiers. Though over the past few months in particular, Vitality made some major strides towards being considered a top team on the global stage coming home with the trophies at cs_summit 4 and ECS Season 7 Finals.

Behind the play of their superstar ZywOo, Vitality have become a legitimate threat to at least reach the finals of any given tournament they enter. As long as their veterans are able to play to the best of their ability, they stand a serious chance to beat any team on any given day.

Since the ESEA Global Challenge doesn’t really have any teams that quite match up with Vitality, I expect they will take home the $25,000 prize for first and add another trophy to their cabinet. They could be upset in Dallas, but I just don’t see it happening given their level of play as of late.

Teams that Could Upset

I don’t think it will happen, but if there are any teams that could end up upsetting Vitality they would be; Furia, Sprout, and Spirit. All three are teams that have some recognizable names in the world of Counterstrike, and each have managed to upset higher ranked teams over the past few years.

Most recently being the young Brazilian squad Furia, who managed to beat Astralis twice at the ECS Season 7 Finals on their way to meeting with Vitality in the final. Vitality got the best of the Brazilians in that matchup winning 2-0, but Furia might have learned a thing or two in that meeting that they may be able to use to get the W this time around against the French side.

Sprout and Spirit both could make a run in Dallas, but I would say the odds of them doing so are a lot less than Furia. Both teams are always hanging around that tier 3-4 area in CSGO, but they have proven in the past that they are capable of upsetting some good opponents so they may be able to make a run to the finals. Getting the win in Dallas is something I wouldn’t count on this time around though, expect Vitality to come out on top when all is said and done at the ESEA Season 31 Global Challenge.

Pick: Vitality (+115)
