Global StarCraft League Preview with odds, picks, and more.
  • The quarterfinals of the Global Starcraft II League Season 3 begin October 14
  • TY, Stats, Zest and Trap are all favored to advance to the semifinals
  • With pre-tournament favorite ‘Rogue’ eliminated in the round of 16, see who we like to advance below

The Global Starcraft II League Season 3 has slowly narrowed it’s field down to the final eight. The GSL Season 3 opening odds haven’t held true as the pre-tournament favorite ‘Rogue’ has since been eliminated. With Rogue out of the tournament, anything can happen in the quarterfinals, including a couple of upsets.

Quarterfinal 1 Betting Odds: TY vs. DongRaeGu

Team Odds to Win
TY -160
DongRaeGu +120

Odds taken Oct. 10

The first match of the quarterfinals is a Terran vs Zerg matchup between TY and DongRaeGu. Both players qualified directly to the round of 16 thanks to their semifinals finish at GSL Season 2 . In the round of 16, TY only had to play two games as he took down Dream and Zoun to finish first in his group. It wasn’t a large sample size but it was quite a confident showing for TY, who was a top-5 tournament favorite according to the opening odds.

DongRaeGu struggled to qualify for the top 8. However, he overcame a tough opponent in Cure to lock up second place in his group. In his opening match of the round of 16, DongRaeGu had previously lost to Cure before being able to right the ship and make it to the quarterfinals. The last time these two played was GSL Season 2, where DongRaeGu got the win. This time I’d expect TY to move on to the semifinals.

Pick: TY (-160)

Quarterfinal 2 Betting Odds: Stats vs. INnoVation

Team Odds to Win
Stats -185
INnoVation +135

Stats has been a very consistent player in 2020 and he has every right to be favored in this quarterfinal match, but there’s some very good value to be had on INnoVation. Pre-tournament, INnoVation had slightly higher odds to win GSL Season 3 and now he finds himself as an underdog because of a rocky start to the tournament. He’s had some trouble with Protoss players this tournament, but I’d rather take a risk on INnovation than bet the favorite here. He is also a big reason as to why Rogue got eliminated early from GSL Season 3.

Pick: INnoVation (+135)

Quarterfinal 3 Betting Odds: Armani vs. Zest

Team Odds to Win
Armani +275
Zest -400

Armani has already surpassed all expectations at this tournament as this is his first major tournament top 8 finish of the year. He’s already taken down sOs, Cure and Zoun after being viewed as a non-factor as GSL Season 3.

It could very well be the end of the road against Zest, but Zest’s only loss thus far in GSL Season 3 was to a zerg player. This matchup could line up well for another upset and Armani’s miracle run might continue on. The -400 for Zest isn’t very appealing so I’ll take a chance on Armani here.
Pick: Armani (+275)

Quarterfinal 4 Betting Odds: Maru vs. Trap

Team Odds to Win
Maru +120
Trap -160

It’s bizarre to see Trap favored over Maru, but it’s difficult to argue against it the way Trap is playing at GSL Season 3. He did drop a match to Solar early in the tournament but he shook that off and beat both Dark and INnoVation in the round of 16.

As for Maru, according to pre-tournament odds he was the second favorite to win the tournament and now finds himself as the underdog. It’s hard to pass on Maru here but Trap just came out on top of the Group of Death and looks inspired for a deep run.

Pick: Trap (-160)
