The off-season is finally over as the LCS Spring Split gets started on January 25th. A flurry of roster moves put a lot of excitement into the new season but regardless, it’s still Team Liquid that looks like the team to beat.

New Jungler, Same Dominance

There’s not much more for Team Liquid to accomplish domestically. They’ve already won four straight LCS splits and now they just need to make something happen on the Worlds stage. At Worlds 2019, they failed to make it out of the group stage and therefore elected to make a minor shakeup to their roster. They acquired Broxah from Fnatic to replace Xmithie in the jungle.

It’s uncertain whether this is actually an upgrade, but Team Liquid clearly thinks so. Broxah should add some aggression into this Team Liquid line-up as they look for a fifth straight title. There aren’t too many teams that stand in their way, so even at -105, they still seem like the easy pick.

Another TSM Rebuild

We’ve been waiting for TSM to return to dominance for a long time, and now might be that time. TSM has tried shaking up their roster in the past but it’s now been over two years since they’ve finished top two in the regular season. They were unable to win big after acquiring Zven from G2, so now they’ve gone to another European AD Carry. TSM picked up Kobbe, while also bringing back Biofrost to join him in the bot lane.

The big question mark is their new jungler Dardoch. He’s bounced around the league and has often gotten himself into trouble with his teammates. However, there’s no questioning his skill. I think he’ll mesh well with Bjergsen, and TSM will be Team Liquid’s biggest threat in spring.

Evil Geniuses Make a Splash in Free Agency

The big wildcard here is Evil Geniuses. It’s a brand new roster with an amalgamation of players. They picked up Kumo, Svenskeren and Zeyzal who all knew each other from Cloud9, then added Bang and Jiizuke. This team could easily struggle straight out of the gates, but I think that the core of former Cloud9 members will keep them competitive.

Picks: To make finals – Team Liquid (-300) & TSM (+200), To Win – Team Liquid (-105)

Bottom/Top 3 LCS Spring Split 2020 Odds

Team Odds to Finish Bottom 3 Odds to Finish Top 3

TSM +1100 -150
CLG +400 +200
Evil Geniuses +250 +350

Dignitas -125 +650
Immortals -125 +650
Golden Guardians -200 +1500

The Lowly Three

For the most part, it looks like the odds have this one right on the money. On paper, Golden Guardians, Immortals and Dignitas have the least impressive rosters.

It looks like the 2020 Spring Split will be split largely into the top five and the bottom five, with Flyquest and 100 Thieves joining GGS, IMT and DIG in the bottom. Of the teams listed in the bottom three, Immortals are the team that could exceed their low expectations. They have veteran members in Xmithie, SoaZ and Hakuho who could move them up the ladder. If that were to happen, expect 100 Thieves to fall down behind them.

Picks: Golden Guardians (-200), Dignitas (-125), 100 Thieves (EVEN)

NA’s Best Hopes

As mentioned before, I think Team Liquid and TSM will be the top two teams during the Spring Split. That might be surprising since Cloud9 has always been a major force in the LCS. However, Cloud9 underwent a huge roster overhaul that leaves me questioning them. They have a revamped bot lane of Zven and Vulcan which should perform well, but the concern lies in Blaber.

He’s the definition of a boom-or-bust player and I don’t think he has the consistency yet to land Cloud9 in the finals. They’ll be fighting with Evil Geniuses and CLG for third, but I’ll go with the high upset of EG.

Picks for Top 3: Team Liquid (-2000), TSM (-150), Evil Geniuses (+350)
