It’s once again time for the best teams across several European regional leagues to duke it out in League of Legends. The most recent EU Masters winners were BIG out of the German Prime League. Once again, the two favorites to win it all both represent this German league, but there are several contenders who are looking to show that their region is stronger.

German Favorites

EU Masters is a difficult tournament to predict because of the lack of head-to-head matches that these teams play. They each participate in their own regional leagues so the strength of each team can really only be measured against those that they consistently play against. History tells us that the German teams have performed strongly, and that is no doubt part of the reason for Schalke 04 Evolution and mousesports being favorites this time around.

Schalke 04.Evo are fundamentally sound and a lot of their players have made it to the top level of European League of Legends. Gilius, Innaxe and SirNukesAlot have all played in the EULCS or LEC. Mousesports is much the same, as their team consists of Jeskla, promisq and the much-hyped mid laner, LIDER. In the Prime League, the two teams finished atop the standings in the regular season, but it was Schalke who would win the head-to-head match-up in the finals. Both German teams have promise, but if it comes down to a face-off in the EU Masters, Schalke have proven they have the edge.

La Ligue

One of the hottest teams entering EU Masters Spring is GamersOrigin of La Ligue. In the regular season of their regional league, GamersOrigin finished with a reasonable 10-4 record which was good enough for third. But it wasn’t until the playoffs began where this team really came into their own. In the gauntlet style playoff format, GamersOrigin had to win three consecutive best of fives to win La Ligue. They did exactly that, each match being more convincing than the one before.

It started with a 3-2 victory over Vitality.Bee, and they followed it up with a 3-1 win over Misfits Premier, and finally a sweep of LDLC OL in the finals. You might not recognize the names on their roster but at +2000 they’re a bargain that has a legitimate shot of pulling off an upset.

The Polish Dark Horse

Another team that’s getting attention despite being far down in the odds is AGO Rogue. Rogue’s academy team competes in Poland’s Ultraliga and has played very well behind their mid laner, Czekolad. The other carry on the team is Woolite who has seen his fair share of top level play in Europe. Following a dominant regular season where AGO ROGUE went 12-2, they immediately lost their first playoff match to K1ck Neosurf, dropping them to the lower bracket.

That loss was a wake-up call of sorts, as AGO ROGUE would win their next match 3-0 over devils.one before overcoming K1ck Neosurf in the grand finals rematch.

Of course, teams like Fnatic Academy and Vodafone Giants who won their respective leagues in England and Spain will be tough to beat. In a 16 team tournament where it’s difficult to extrapolate how good a team is, it’s worth looking at AGO ROGUE or GamersOrigin and their very low odds of winning. In EU Masters Summer 2019, LDLC were the favorites but they didn’t make it out of the round of 8. Take a chance on a dark horse here.

Pick: GamersOrigin (+2000)
