  • League of Legends World Championship runs October 2nd to November 10th
  • Fnatic has seen a drop in the odds table while DAMWON has risen up
  • Are either team a serious threat to hoist the Summoners Cup?

The League of Legends World Championship is right around the corner, and after the group draw that took place last week we have seen some pretty major moves in the odds table since we last took a look.

Most notably would be the EU powerhouse, Fnatic, moving from +1000 all the way to +1600, and the newcomers on the international stage, DAMWON, seeing their odds shorten from +1000 to +750.

Is either team worth taking a serious look at to win Worlds, or is there a better bet to take home the Summoners Cup?

Group of Death For Fnatic

EU’s second seed Fnatic, drew quite possibly the most scary group ever in the history of League’s World Championship as they were placed with SK Telecom, Fnatic, and Royal Never Give Up.

All three are legendary teams in their respective regions, and all three will be vying to be one of the top two teams in Group C and make it into the Main Event.

There is a very real possibility that Fnatic doesn’t even make it out of this stacked group, which is why we saw their odds fall to +1600.

In the best-of-one format for the Group Stage portion of the event, anything could happen. SK Telecom is undoubtedly the most decorated team in the history of League of Legends and will be looking for redemption this year.

Group C will be a bloodbath and it is almost impossible to tell how it will end up playing out. All three of the teams that are already slotted in the group have a legitimate chance to at least make it to the semifinals, and if they had been spread out into other groups there is a very real chance that could have happened.

Easy Road for DAMWON?

After an impressive performance in the LCK Summer Split where they placed third, DAMWON managed to continue their stellar play into the Regional Finals where they came out with the final seed for Korea at the World Championship.

They have shown all year long that they are one of the best teams in Korea, which many consider to be the best region in the world, and for the first time they will be showcasing their talents on the international stage.

The first step for DAMWON, will be battling through the Play-in stage of the World Championship, which shouldn’t prove to be too much of a problem at all. If they are able to make it through to the main event they will be guaranteed a spot in either Group B or D since the other two Korean teams have been slotted into Group’s A and C.

DAMWON, they should be able to make it through to the Main Event given that the only real threats that I can see would be FPX in Group B and Liquid in Group D. If they show the same level of play that they have in the LCK, then I suspect they will be able to snag a spot in the quarterfinals.

That being said, I just don’t see DAMWON able to compete with the likes of SKT, G2 and FPX in the latter stages of the tournament. They certainly have upset potential, but at +750 I would say that they aren’t worth putting any significant money on.

Pick: SK Telecom (+450)
