A strong field has been assembled at the European Tour’s flagship event for the BMW PGA Championship in Surrey, England. While some of the big names who played last year like Rory McIlroy and Jon Rahm have opted out of competing, there are still some world class players teeing it up at the famed Wentworth Club.
Danny Willett returns to defend his title which he won by three strokes over Rahm last year. This course has hosted this prestigious championship every year since 1984.
Betting co-favorite Tommy Fleetwood came oh-so-close to winning last week, losing in a playoff to Aaron Rai, and Patrick Reed returns to competition coming off his disappointing weekend showing at Winged Foot.

Tommy Fleetwood Coming off Crushing Playoff Loss
At last week’s Aberdeen Investments Scottish Open, Fleetwood let a golden opportunity to win his sixth European Tour title slip through his fingers when he missed a short par putt on the first playoff hole, losing to Aaron Rai.

He’s been trending up, having also posted a T-3rd finish in his previous tournament in Europe at the Portugal Masters.
That has resulted in the Englishman seeing him as the co-favorite to win outright alongside Patrick Reed. Fleetwood, however, doesn’t have an overly strong track record at Wentworth.
Tommy Fleetwood, how possibly did you make it back onto the green with this one?! 🤯 pic.twitter.com/l6yuFL1gnR

He’s competed at this tournament every year since 2012, and has just one top-ten finish to show for it (T-6 in 2015). Fleetwood has also missed two cuts at this track in that span.
Sandwiched in between his pair of top-three finishes on the European Tour was a missed cut at the US Open, and in his six prior events, he posted nothing better than a T-29 showing.
With his lukewarm track record around this venue, I’d he hesitant to go all-in on him this week despite his recent hot play.

BMW PGA Championship Best Value Picks
- Lucas Herbert (+3400): The 24-year-old Australian held the 36-hole lead at last week’s Scottish Open after rounds of 66-65. A brutal round of 79 on Saturday saw him tumble down the board but he rebounded with a 65 to finish T-4th. Herbert was T-7th in his previous event before that as well. Ninth in strokes gained: putting this season.
- Robert Rock (+5500): The man with perhaps the most beautiful head of hair in golf has discovered a career resurgence, where he missed out on a playoff last week by just a single stroke. Also placed T-4th at the Betfred British Masters in a stretch of seven made cuts in his last nine events.
- Andrew ‘Beef’ Johnston (+6500): Has had three really strong showings at the BMW PGA in the last four years, where he was T-7th in 2016, T-9th last year and T-21st in 2017. Beef was T-3rd at the Celtic Classic just three starts ago.
