Yet another iteration of ‘The Match’ is set to tee off Thursday, June 29th at 6:30pm ET on TNT, and this time it features four golfers who are more well known for their prowess on the basketball court and the gridiron. This will be just the second time in eight matches that no professional golfers will be taking part. This go around, it’s the ‘Splash Brothers’ from the Golden State Warriors in Steph Curry and Klay Thompson battling against the defending Super Bowl champs Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs.
It’ll be a twelve-hole affair at the Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas, which will be the third time this will be the venue. The fifth edition was won by Brooks Koepka over Bryson DeChambeau and the sixth Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers were victorious over Josh Allen and Mahomes.

Curry Has Leg Up On Competitors
It should come as no surprise that the Golden State Warriors tandem are such heavy favorites to emerge victorious. After all, Curry has competed twice in Korn Ferry Tour events, and he plays to a scratch handicap. At the American Century Championship the last three years he’s been solid as well, which is a tournament for athletes and entertainers. The four-time NBA Champion has placed fourth, ninth and T-16th last year.

Thompson hasn’t played in that championship, and the results for the Chiefs duo have not been pretty. For the Chiefs signal caller, he’s gone T51-T50-T38, with Kelce even worse at 64-66-T58. It’ll be a monumental task to overcome Curry, unless he winds up having a rough day at the office.
The Match VIII Pick
As with The Match in prior instances, this event features twelve holes of scramble play. Each player tees off and the team selects the best ball to play from on the next shot, and the hole is played that way throughout. That will be a significant challenge for the Chiefs squad – Mahomes plays off a seven handicap, with Kelce an eleven. They get a bit of a break that Thompson is the worst of the bunch at a 15, but that’s mitigated by Curry’s stellar game.
As much as there’s solid value for the Chiefs tandem to pull off the upset, picking the better player by a big margin is the best course of action – don’t overthink it.
