LIV Golf Invitational London Odds – First-Round Leader and Tournament Winner

After many months of wondering if the LIV Golf Tour would ever get off the ground, the first official event is upon us. The LIV Golf Invitational London features a 48-man field and while the tournament will follow a stroke play format, there’s plenty of differences between it and a traditional PGA Tour event.
Money, of course, is the biggest differentiator. The winner will take home $4 Million, which is more than any first place purse on the PGA Tour this season. Every round will begin as a shotgun start, there’s no cut, and the tournament will conclude after 54 holes.
There’s also a team aspect to it, but that won’t factor in to our betting decisions. Speaking of wagers, the betting menu isn’t as deep as a PGA Tour event, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t value to be found. du Plessis Starts Strong
Raise your hand if you’ve ever heard of Hennie du Plessis. Don’t be ashamed if you haven’t, you’re certainly not alone. Once you get past the big names that have bolted from the PGA Tour in search of bigger, guaranteed pay days, you’re left with a bunch of lesser known talents from the European and Asian Tours.
When Hennie Du Plessis wins the first event and takes home the 4 million the line to get into the next field will be long.

But that doesn’t mean these guys can’t play. Take du Plessis for example. The 25-year-old currently ranks second in scoring on the DP World Tour, and owns the lowest round of the season in Europe (62).
He’s shot 65 or better five times since the start of March and has an Opening Round scoring average of 67.5 during that stretch.

du Plessis also ranks top-10 in Europe in strokes gained total, strokes gained off the tee and around the green, and has my attention in the First Round Leader market.

Na in Terrific Form
Moving our attention to the outright market where we’ll find Kevin Na at +1200. On the surface, that seems like a steep price to pay, but the numbers suggest otherwise.

Na’s ball striking has been off the charts over the past two months. He’s gained at least 3.2 strokes on approach in four consecutive measured events, and has been by far the best iron player in the field over the past 50 rounds.
His short game is world class and the Centurion Club in London, where the tournament will be contested, is not a course that emphasizes driving distance, which is his biggest leak.

Na has won on the PGA Tour four times in the past four years, and while he’s not a sexy name like Dustin Johnson, Louis Oosthuizen, Talor Gooch or Sergio Garcia in relation to this field, he’s currently playing much better than all of them. I’m betting he takes down the inaugural LIV Tour event this week.
