The AT&T Byron Nelson has struggled to attract a strong field with it being the event before the second major of the season – the PGA Championship.

The tournament has, however, decided to extend a sponsor’s exemption to former star quarterback Tony Romo on his quest to make a PGA Tour cut, and subsequently betting books are offering a slew of prop bets to wager on the former Cowboys’ quarterback.

Tony Romo Cut Props

Will Tony Romo make the cut? Odds
Yes +1600
No -5000

*Odds taken 05/07/19

Romo has competed in two tour events in his career (not including the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am) and hasn’t even come close to making the cut at either the 2018 or 2019 editions of the Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship. He’ll be helped by the familiar confines of his home course, Trinity Forest, but there simply is no chance he’ll make it.

Pick: No (-5000)

Romo Missed Cut Odds

How many shots will Romo miss the cut by? Odds
Over 11 1/2 shots -115
Under 11 1/2 shots -115

In two events in the Dominican, Romo wasn’t even close, missing the cut by 16 strokes in 2018 and 17 shots last year. He does have the advantage of course knowledge at this tournament, however.

This will still be a tough one for Romo to conquer, despite him having a wealth of knowledge to lean upon.

Pick: Over 11 1/2 shots (-115)

High Round Score Props

Highest score in any round Odds
Over 77 1/2 shots -130
Under 77 1/2 shots +100

I think it’s very likely that Romo really struggles in the first round before bouncing back for a semi-respectable second day score when the pressure is off. That would mean he’d shoot at least six over par the first day (par 72)

Pick: Over 77 1/2 shots (-130)

Highest Hole Score Props

Highest score on any hole Odds
Over 7 1/2 shots -110
Under 7 1/2 shots -120

Despite missing the cut by a thousand shots both times at the Corales Puntacana Championship, he did not card a score worse than seven. Trinity Forest has just three par 5’s so that helps his cause for this as well. Given that it’s his home course and hasn’t been prone to the blow up hole, I’m showing a little faith in the four-time Pro Bowler.

Pick: Under 7 1/2 shots (-120)

Lowest Round Score Props

Lowest score in any round Odds
Over 75 shots +100
Under 75 shots -130

Pretty surprising that the line favors the under rather than the over in this situation. Realistically expecting Romo to shoot +3 or better in the two rounds is too tall a task, plus you get the better betting line taking the over.

Pick: Over 75 shots (+100)

Lowest Hole Score Props

Lowest score on any hole Odds
Over 2 1/2 shots -130
Under 2 1/2 shots +100

There are the customary four par-3’s on this course. Romo has eight chances to birdie one of them to hit the under. That’s reasonable for him.

Pick: Under 2 1/2 shots (+100)

1st Hole Props

What score will Romo record on 1st hole in Round 1? Odds
Birdie or Better +325
Par -120
Bogey or Worse +185

In all four rounds he’s played in the Dominican the last two years he’s begun the day with a bogey in each instance. If he begins the first round on hole 1, that’s a par 5 which gives him a shot at birdie. If he begins on the back nine it’s a challenging par 4.

Pick: Bogey or Worse (+185)

Top 20 Finish Props

Will Tony Romo finish inside the top 20? Odds
Yes +4000
No -25000

Nobody likes being a debbie downer, and the payoff for selecting yes and being correct is fantastic. However, in good conscience I could never suggest wagering that Romo would be inside the top 20 in a field of professional golfers. He potentially might be for nine holes, or maybe even after one round, but no chance over a course of an entire tournament.

Pick: No (-25000)

Last Place Props

Will Tony Romo finish in last place? Odds
Yes -125
No -105

In 2018 Romo finished dead last at the Corales event, but in 2019 he managed to barely avoid that distinction again. It’s a toss up whether he’ll bring up the rear this week. It’s never fun to bet on misery, but in this case, it still is more prudent to pick him to struggle the most.

Pick: Yes (-125)
